Re: Original documentation dating verification
Kenneth,
to clarify a couple of points made in your comments.
First, you referred to "taking an ink sample". I don't what would be involved, but, it sounds like a scraping or a chemical inducement that may cause damage and/or give the document an appearance of being tampered with.
Secondly, yes, the technology is available to digitally enhance the text image from the "Dark" area surrounding it.
Thirdly, Al has done his homework to the benefit of us all.
For example, if someone purchased a used '67 Corvette within the two year warranty period, they could go to a dealer and have a second GM POP produced in their name. The fonts in these second POPs, produced by GM, do not even have the same characteristics as those of the production POPs that came with the car.
Fourthly, what the other guys said.
Fifthly, I think I just created a new word, but, wanted to remain consistent,
Good Summation!
Steve, you are missing two the best shows on TV.
Pat, many reasons how your re-POP may have slipped through.
Since only the contents are judged, you may have recieved credit just because it is there. Judge may have identified it as a repop and given credit because it is not judged individually, or, the judges experience level with the originals.
HaND guys
