63 Cutaway Car In Lamars Iowa In 63

Here's a neat picture I found while surfing around online this morning. Maybe you've all seen it, but I never have. From what I understand, Chevrolet brough this display to Grotewold's Chevrolet in LeMars, Iowa for their grand opening. Wonder what ever happened to this one ??

    The good old days !!

That looks like the diplay that raises the body off the chassis to show all the chassis details. One like it with a Nassua Blue 1965 body and fuel injection was on display at Bloomington about 10 years ago. Maybe the same display rebodied and modified as a 1965? If so it's still around somewhere.

Larry, That display might have been Kevin's from Corvette Repair in NY.

THe one at Bloomington was an origial GM display. The story,if I remember correctly was that after GM was done with it they donated it to a school. It was later bought from the school by a collecter. If Kevins sounds like it was a GM display it could very well be the same one. I have some photos of it, but it will be a day or so before I can dig them up and post a few.

I'm working a 16 hour shift today, so I'll dig them up tomorrow evening and try and post a couple. It was a very impressive display. The body would rise up and rollers worked the front and rear suspension. If I remember, the fuel injection unit and engine were cut awy so you could view the internals. I'm thinking the year was 1998 or 1999 after the show moved from Springfield back to Bloomington.

                Hi Larry !

I have studied that car pretty closely when it was at Bloomington years ago. The blue one.

I've never seen this 63 one before.

I've never seen the 63 display before either. Nice seeing that picture. I'm wondering if GM rebuilt and updated the 63 display for 1965, maybe 1964 also.

Al Wiseman had the '65 display restored and sold it a few years ago to Detroit Showdown Muscle Cars for big bucks. I remember it had an interesting story; found overseas in some warehouse.

That's the one I remember seeing before, the 65 blue feulie. I believe it spent some time over in Africa of all places.

One of the coolest GM displays I've ever seen.

I believe these 2 closeups are of the same car, when it was in a showroom in Tarpon Springs FL, in 2006.

Tom would you know if the '65 had a VIN and if so what it was?

Is that gone from Tarpon Springs? remember seeing in late 90's from outside since I was not going to pay the admission price. Had breakfast across street very often.
