    Why is that unsettling?

    All anyone on this board needs to do is go look in their driveway. Look at your daily driver. Given the affluence of most Corvette owners you probably have taken an easy $20K bath on your daily driver. You worked hard to earn the money to buy the car yet routinely accept HUGE depreciation on that same car.

    In reality you should drive your "Old" Corvette everyday. At least the loss of value on the "old" Corvette will FAR LESS than the loss on your regular everyday driver car.

    See, money really isn't all that important when it comes to having fun!

It is however an original pad stamping. He has corrected everything that was wrong or missing. Apparently ordered with very few options. A very early car, something like vin 2554.
      I dont mind ending up with 50K in mine when Im all done, even if Im not able to get it judged. I think it will be much better than what sold for 50K at Barrett Jackson from what Ive been reading. And as so well said above, we arent here to do this to turn a profit. Its a sense of accomplishment. I think its very satisfying.

        John,

        If it will make you feel better there are higher priced 69 435HP cars out there.

        Try here, this one is in Monterey CA

          If your buying a Corvette to do alot of work on it and then flip it to make a profit on it- you would be better off buying a quality car already done with good paperwork and sitting on it for awhile.. I was always told that Classic Cars are like playing the Market - you never suffer a loss until you sell something. I think one of the best things said on this subject was " in this economy who brings a real quality car to an auction that features no reserve ". If you do I have a bridge here in the New York area I would like you to take a look at.

              There's a pride of accomplishment and a sense of being at one with your machine once you've turned every bolt on a car. It's an intimate union of man and Machine that words can not describe unless you've restored one.

              John, you put in words exactly how I feel about restoring a car.

                    I look at the car hobby this way. Its better than say golf, or travel as a hobby. So I install a $500 part on my Corvette that adds $250 to its value. Had I spent the same $500 playing golf or on an airline ticket, I'd just be the full $500 in the hole. And there's really no sense of cars being an investment either, since if I ever sell my Corvette, I'll just buy another one. Its not like I'm planning to cover my living expenses in retirement by selling off my cars. Quite the contrary, more free time I hope will mean even more classic cars and more expense. Plus, by the time I need the money for a nursing home, there won't be any baby boomers left to buy my classics and gasoline will probably be $50/gallon making them impractical to actually drive. Corvettes are likely to be near worthless by the time I'm senile enough they take mine away from me anyway.

                        Phil;

                        Did you ever think about being buried in one of your Vettes? After all, if by then they have little resale value, might as well take them with you. The Chinese symbolically send cars and houses with their dead, as well as money and food, so why not. I'm considering it.

                          You could single handidly revive grave robbing. Someone may need Corvette parts in the future!

                          Corvette archeology, the new frontier!

                            Well, I suppose we could get into how many plots it would take for an assembled Vette vs. parts in boxes, but I think it becomes a little morbid and is best dropped. Then there is the more than one Vette problem which gets into depth for multiple stacking and stuff like that - ya, let's not go there.
