Disturbing 1969 435HP Sale on Barrett Jackson

Numbers matching 1969 427/435HP with documentation, nicely restored.

    $50,000 + commision = $55K.

    http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...3&d=01/14/2009 Item # 434.

Is this indictitive of the market, or a fluke with an extremely lucky bidder?

If this is what the market's bearing I made a foolish mistake buying and restoring this smallblock.

    WOW.

I just watched that too! If all that talk was legit somebody got a pretty nice looking '69 bigblock for a song.

Unless you are there you dont have a clue what they are saying and what it really is. I love the phantom bidder in the sky box when the bidding stalls. Dale

I watched both '69 coupes run over the block. I didn't see where either car had factory docs to back up the engine option. The LeMans blue 435 coupe looked to have a showcar sign board in the passenger seat. The green 400 coupe didn't show docs, that I saw. I would think for 50K and 33K that both were probably lacking factory docs and maybe re-stamped to claim "numbers matching" motto.

I just started a complete restoration on a 1969 427/400. I was sick when I saw that the 427/435 went for 50K. I didnt see the one for 33K. Im going to have more than 50K in mine when Im done, not counting the hours. I dont have paperwork but It is "numbers matching", and the numbers are good. Im hoping that was a lucky bidder and not the value for right now. i guess most of the Corvettes are going through on Friday and Saturday according to the Barrett Jackson people.

Hold on everybody....I was there yesterday... out of 50+ vettes there (and I know I did not see them all) there were only a few that would be as good as what we are working on. Rattle can resto all over the place..a C2 i looked at had glue oozing out under a spinner...that I assumed held it on!

AND we have to remember we are right in the middle of the biggest downturn to hit this country in 50 years. Most of my stock holdings are down over 45% unemployment is at the highest level in 20 years.

I just started a my body off resto on my small block 71, I know it will take me 2 years or more to do, the market can't get any worse, and if it does I know I just wont sell into a bad market, just like I know I wont sell my house or my stocks in this type of market.
I know and accept that I probably wont get any more than what I have in it back its the fun is why I'm doing it.

Lets not get caught up in the hype, sit back and everthing will be fine.
              See you in Florida!

Did anyone catch that 78 Pace Car Lot #347 which went for $34,100?? It sold b4 air time apparently, but I can't get any specs on it now as to how it was equipped.

Hard to figure why the buyer paid $37,000 (including commission) for the 74 454 coupe with nothing correct under the hood. Flamed air cleaner and valve covers.

                    John

I have done a couple of restorations on mid years. After driving each for a couple of years i sold them. I was happy to break even, though i always swore the last was the last. A couple of months ago my wive found a pcture of my then (about ) 3 year old daughter handing me my priceless power antenna to instal on the 65 and now i remember why we did them.

First off Barrett/Jackson is not a good source for car values. You have people that go there with more money than brains, add a little alcohol, a few minutes on TV and good sense and good judgement go right out the window. Check out past auction prices compared to local sales and you will see what I mean. It's like comparing apples to oranges.
Second, if you are restoring a Corvette to make money, good luck. Most of us realize we will never live long enough to get the money out of our cars that we put in to them, hence the reason it is still called a hobby.

Pace car, loaded, 17 miles still in the wrapper ...I was suprised it went as high as it did.
My Brother and I figured $20k based on what we saw going thru.

Thanks Pete. My son has a real nice one (best of 3 he's had) and likes to keep track of values. His is base W/L-82 wide ratio 4-speed, cloth interior w/wrappers, but Top Flighted last year.

                          Thanks again;

I have a brother attending Barrett-Jackson and he mentioned that the 2 big block 427 1969s were not great. As for the 74 big block, it appears glitz sells. Rick Hendrick bought the street rod for $200000. JMHO

Rick Hendrick also got a sweet buy on the white GM ZR-1, which will no doubt go into his showroom.
