Re: Lower Clutch Rod

Absolutely. 1955-81 Corvettes used only 2 different ball studs---1955-65 used a stud of 1-1/2" OL, 1966-E75 used a stud of 1-3/8" OL, and L75-81 went back to the 1-1/2" stud. Later in SERVICE, the 1-3/8" stud was discontinued and replaced by the 1-1/2" stud. As a practical matter, either of these studs can be used on any 1955-81 without creating too much in the way of problems and either could definitely be used on the 1966 model at issue here. The 1-1/2" stud, GM #3729000, was also used for for the most other Chevrolet applications and is VERY common. The 1-3/8" stud, GM #3887159, was Corvette-only.
However, as you mention, if some other stud with a different overall length were installed, that would definitely "throw everything out of kilter".
