Re: C1 Oil Canister Restoration
Bob;
Just happen to turn on and catch your post.
You have to be careful on this spin on filter use on earlier canister equipped engines in that there are several adapter kits out there. In my case, I already had a kit from back in the 80's made by "Mr. Gasket" and I wanted to use it rather than invest a new one from one of the Corvette Parts houses, such as Eckler's. The new ones are sized for a PF-454 (AC Delco) where as my kit has a smaller diameter seal surface and takes a PF-2 (Fram PH-8 or an - 8A). I used that data then to cross reference on the Wix Web Site and came up with a Wix #51515. They even have a 2 quart version #51773 that fits my kit (ground clearance?).
So, your best bet is get the adapter kit first and determine which AC Delco filter it requires, then cross reference it on their web site. Their site is very user friendly. Then, the next thing is find a place that handles Wix filters. The major Auto Parts Chains don't seem to carry them, so again use their web site to locate a dealer near you - usually an independent store that deals mostly with wholesale. I found one close to my house in an older part of town and they gave me a discount wholesale price w/o my asking for it. They had lots of other NOS parts that are hard to find too. I was like a kid in a candy store.
