Re: John Hinckley nominated for NCM Hall of Fame

            All:

I wish to express thanks from Alex Mair and myself relative to your support/input for John Hinckley to the National Corvette Hall of Fame nomination that Alex and I submitted.

Special thanks to Howard Hoover, Michigan Chapter Chairman, Steve Rode and J. Antczak for all of their help plotting and scheming to successfully surprise John with the presentation.

Special thanks also to Patrick Hulst who initiated this forum post relative to John.

Alex, my co-nominator, as noted ran engineering for GM/Chevy, general manager for Pontiac. He worked on the 53 Corvette design and was responsible during the 60s and I believe early 70s for engineering and the organization for the car designs we love so much. As Alex says, he ran engineering for the largest company in the world.... Zora and John H. worked for Alex. Alex was told by the then GM chairman to fire Zora. He worked with Ed Cole to get around the directive. Image how that would have changed Corvette History.

Part of John's nomination discusses the 3 patents John championed along with deriviative work that improved assembly and lowered cost through fewer sku's required. Alex discusses Net Design which he and John collaborated on in the video a little bit which reduced the dependence on the operator to place parts correctly as they rolled down the assembly line.

There is a video that was taken during the ceremony of the Michigan chapter presentation of their testimonial on YouTube. Steve Rhode edited and submitted the video to YouTube. Howard, Alex, John and myself are the speakers. Access the Michigan web site and click on the Hinckley video.

            Web link:

My favorite picture of my 64 is shown in my profile. Without John H. help, a parade of excellence car (today) never would have been possible.

Long story short, enabling a dream is what has happened over the last 9 years with help especially from John.

Enjoy the video - reflects about 50 years of relatonship between John Hinckley and Corvettes.

John Hinckley IN Hall of Fame

The National Corvette Museum has selected John Hinckley as one of its inductees to the Corvette Hall of Fame for 2009. This is a great honor for John and well deserved. If you missed our tribute to John and the nomination ceremony at our annual business meeting, it was a fantastic day. Pictures will be posted on our web site in the near future. (Some are above in this discussion of the nomination.)

We can not thank John enough for all he has done for our chapter and the prestige that he brings to us. The formal induction and dinner will take place next September and we will plan a road tour to Bowling Green to participate and help John celebrate his induction to the Hall of Fame. Details will be forthcoming in future e-mails and in the Vette Signal. Please see the formal announcement attached to this e-mail for further information on John's achievements.

If you get a chance, please congratulate John personally, the next time you see him or send him a note, this is a great Honor that should be acknowledged.

Happy Holidays and Congratulations to John Hinckley,

Re: John Hinckley nominated for NCM Hall of Fame

                        John,

The Corvette Hall of Fame would not be complete without you.

It's fitting for the announcement to take place during the Christmas season when we traditionally share gifts. You have been sharing your gifts with us year 'round.

                        Thank you John!
