    Re: C2 keys in Judging

As an ex-service manager of 15 years for a GM Buick store in the early 70's to mid 1980's we were instructed by our Zone Office that at the "pre-delivery" inspection we were to punch out the key blanks / slugs, (which our Parts Manager had a hand held tool to do this with) put all 4 in a small manilla envelope and give this to the salesman of the customer and he would talk about these at the time of 'New Car Delivery".

Wayne - I didn't have the 65 Owner's Manual ignition key operation info so I was hoping one of you 65 experts would chime in and provide the accurate info for the ignition switch key operation and you did. Thanks, Pete

My 63 Owners Guide is consistent with your 64. I guess I never really tried to remove the key in OFF or ACC positions as the only time I ever removed it was while it was running in order to open my glove box. I was surprised to read that the switch can be moved from OFF to ON position and vice versa without the key. My manual is a second edition probably because it is a July 63 build. It still has the page stub in it from which I ordered the Patch, Lapel Pin and I.D. Card. I still have the patch and pin, but not sure where the card is.

I have the original key and several copies acquired through the years. You use that darn one key for everything (doors, ignition, glove box and spare tire lock). No wonder they wear out fast.

Stu, As mentioned I said have one original key. Down to the bare brass as the plating wore off fast. I always thought is was amazing that the key still has the knock out in. The center hole is the larger size one. Neat that one key fits all. But I forgot to tell you guys that I have TWO original keys for the LWC. Instead of the usual hex key , my 2nd key is a round key-say like a later midyear. Same key number and everything. Works the spare tire and outside door handles. I believe it may work other things though but I haven't tried it. The key is really worn though. Just like its mate. So the LWC has a hex key and a round key. Once at Marlborough I showed the round to Carlton but he ran away screamin at me. No No NF way.
That alone was worth a grand I thought.
        Peter are you listening????

Drove the 64 over 5000 miles to three Regionals and the San Jose National, one dust storm and 40 lbs of bugs!

Done...look up the thread, Pete, and you'll see the cognizant portion of the Performance Verification manual cited. Also, 1965 used a one year only '660 ignition switch and those buggers are getting hard to find!
