    Who moved my cheese?

I am getting used to the new format. In time, we all will. Let's give it a chance.

In my professional life I oversaw over 40 system conversions (ERP and desktop) and countless upgrades. It's a wonder I have any hair left. Even with thousands of hours of training, users still struggled with a new system and the first few months were always the worst. In time though, most adapted and found the new system to be much more powerful. And there were always bugs and improvements made that took the bumps out of the road.

A tip I discovered - when you click on a thread and the first page is displayed, right above the post reply button, there are three other buttons Posts, Latest activity and photos. If you click on the "posts" button, the screen is refreshed with all posts in ascending order with the first post on top and every other post in order from oldest to newest, like the old system. It's an extra step but it helps me "adjust". without digging in to all the options stuff.

I agree with Duke. I have never signed up with Facebook and don't understand why so many businesses have a Facebook page, instead of their own website.

        It’s free.

Websites can cost a lot of money to build and maintain.

I was on Facebook, the NCRS Group. I clicked on Sponsored and the next thing I knew I was watching XXX hard porn.

I signed off, took FB out of my Chrome startup and will not go there anymore. Not something I want the Grandkids to see.

Since the "change" I too have found this board extremely hard to read. It may be logical, it may be better, but for me and a lot of other people it seems, it is hard to read. I have wanted to write this post since the new format came out but I figured it was just me. Seems I am not alone. I subscribe to over 40 different forums our there and this is the only one that does not have an option "New and Updated Posts Since Last Visit". With that one setting, that the old format had, you could check the board and see all of the threads that were either new or that had new posts since your last visit to the site, whether that last visit was earlier today, yesterday, last week, or last month. Then in the list of threads there was a line that said "Threads below have not been updated since your last visit" and al of the threads that were not updated were listed. Now I have to find a post that I am interested in, then check the date of the last post to see if it contains new info and yes I have my search settings set as directed above in previous posts. The problem is the search filter has predefined time periods like "All Time, Yesterday, Last Week, Last Month"; no option for "Since Last Visit" which is what's needed. The Internet is supposed to be fun, this site is supposed to be fun, when it gets to be like work, people do less of it. I would suggest looking behind the scenes in the new forum program and making it act like the old forum program and add a "Since Last Visit" option to the filter.

I'm sure the feature is buried in this program; we just haven't found it yet.. The IT team is tweaking the program on a daily basis, trying to make it as user friendly as we all want it to be.. I will encapsulate your suggestion and put it into a Help Desk Ticket, and see if the wizards can create the feature, and "make your day".

                Bill,

When you enter the Forum in the menu you will see the Forums button on the far left. Mouse over it and the first thing on the drop down list is New Topics. That should show you all of the posts since your last visit.

In addition when you first come to the Tech Board look at the column on the right side of the page. Scroll down that column and look at the information there.

Latest Topics show a couple of the latest posts as well as the latest items in the Calendar.

Next is your Bookmarks. Find out about Bookmarks here.

Next on the list is the Tag Cloud. If members would learn to use this it would help everyone search for information relevant to them. This is only available when you start a thread. I need to remember to use this feature myself.
                image.png
The last item is Trending Posts listing the most active recent posts.

                I hope this information helps.

John, Thank you for you help, I appreciate it but as they say "close but no cigar" New Topics does just that it brings up only the new topics not all posts since last visit, and that is what is needed. In my opinion this is what is missing and results in the forum being hard to read. The user needs to do too much searching and setting search parameters multiple times in order to get the info needed. There needs to be a setting of "All Posts since last visit" the search will include new threads since last visit, new posts in old threads since last visit and the search inserts the line below the last new thread/post since last visit that says "Threads below have not been updated since your last visit" this way the user will now he has sen all new info since the last visit.

Does Face Book even have a Search function? Not taking advantage of this TB extensive archives seems a waste.

Really like this new Tech Board.

The answer is no. Facebook is a social media site and is not, and never was, intended to be used as a technical database. It's basically a self promotion venue for people or other entities that somehow believe their activities matter.

From what I'm reading someone at eBay updated the enhanced tracking(just what we need). To watch more of your every move within the site(thanks).

The fix is explained but I cant get it to work. Again the electronic frustration I was just describing. These rocket scientists can figure that stuff out but cant figure out how to make it seamless. Probably hired a 17 year old gamer to do the update.
Years ago, each browser handle the internet differently. Netscape, the original mainstream browser, set the standard - MOZILLA. In typical Microsoft standard operating procedures, they introduced the Explorer browser and integrated it into the Windows operating system. Then Microsoft got sued and and was forced to make it a separate option. MOZILLA eventually became Firefox. In between all of this Google Chrome took over everything. Chrome and the new Edge product are identical. Firefox still follows the Mozilla standards. The problem is that with 90% of the market being held by Chrome and Edge, they drive their own standard which leads to issues with other browsers based on Mozilla, which includes Firefox.

The Facebook site is under a different NCRS Administrator. The TDB is by and large the best resource for accurate information about restoration, maintenance and judging. Decades of posts from people that have been involved with Corvettes their entire life. It is at a disadvantage to the Corvette Forum because that has free access. You get what you pay for.

The NCRS Facebook (FB) group has a different administrator with a different approach and philosophy. It should be subordinate to the TDB not competing with it for eye-balls.

For example, even thought the FB group policy specifically prohibits self promotion or advertising, ads do appear on the FB site. I've seen technical posts on the FB page that direct users to the Corvette Forum for the actual content instead of placing it on the NCRS TDB. The reason I was given does not hold water.

I've had at least 2 detailed correspondences with the FB administrator pointing out how the FB page, as it now stands, is potentially detrimental to NCRS paid advertising efforts. I raise an objection to allowing links from a member's FB post, to content that would only on the Corvette Forum site. The general belief on his part was that Facebook offers a better interface than the NCRS TDB, is easier to use, and a person is less likely to be a victim of an unfriendly reply.

It was obvious to me that I was getting nowhere. In my opinion, there is a significant disconnect between the purpose and approach of the FB group page and the NCRS website, in particular the TDB. I left the FaceBook page as a result.

I had to think about this a long time. I decided the CF typically did not provide proper advise to owners and was trying to be our competition anyway. I logged and removed it from my Chrome Startup.
