Re: Car Show Survey Question
I can't help but to join in on this discussion. I too have been to shows where the participants judge the field. On one particular event, the only rule was you can't vote for your own. This one had a field of 50 vehicles, sponsored by two local car clubs (that should have been a red flag for me). There were 35 trophies to be given out. My pristine '70 was parked next to a just as nice '63 split window. Next to him was an immaculate white Stutz Bearcat. All three of us got nothing (we were bottom 15). Most of the field were modified later model Mustangs and Cameros. As noted in the above thread responses above, the clubs did the flip-flop and all their club buddies won something. Couldn't believe the Stutz was shunned over a hideous looking Chev pickup with chrome strips glued onto the sides in random fashion. (Yes, that truck won a trophy ...)
On the flip side, I love participating in AACA sponsored events. (I'm not a member, but no penalty.) Been to several events at different chapters. The judges were fair and thorough (had a clipboard with multiple judging areas to mark a score) and there are many different classes within the classes so even if three early C3s are in the field, all three of us walked away with recognition (i.e. "Preservation" class vs. "Restored", etc). And the award plaques at the last one I went to had a nicely staged picture of their car on it, taken when we entered the event. A class act with an outstanding field of great looking cars! Looking forward to their local Chapter event again this year.Bill Bertelli
