    Re: Car Show Survey Question

Good morning Mr. Doty! Tammy better be careful about what she volunteers for because we just might take her up on that 😁. We have done very well at that show with regard to awards & we certainly are grateful & flattered because we're in the presence of a great many beautiful cars at that event (around 300). You'd think I'd be the last person griping but the glaring inequity in awards at that show (ie: prejudice towards the classic cars & favoritism to the late models, in my opinion) needs to be fixed to bring the show up to its potential greatness. And I'm not alone in that opinion, by the way. It really seems to me like the folks with the later model cars really resent the folks with the classics because the crowds seem to gather around the older cars quite a bit more and steal their thunder. They just went down to their local dealership and plunked down 120k for the nicest C8 they could buy and they want to show it off and I don't blame them. They're beautiful cars and I'd love to own one, too but I can only afford one and my dream car is a C2 big block and that's what I have. The thing of it is, people see those late model cars every day but they sure as heck don't see a C1 or C2 or C3 rolling down the road very often so it's a much different attraction issue for the crowd. Still pisses the late model car owners off anyway, though. Not sure what the cure to that problem is, but it seems to be a problem.

The piston sits on top, and a skeleton face has been machined into it with a cigar sticking out through his teeth (50 cal machine gun brass) and it is the coolest thing you can imagine so not all trophies are of the $15.00 variety. This thing weighs about 35 lbs & it sits smack dab on a counter between our living room and kitchen where we can see it every day. So they can be fun, Mark...Doug
      Good deal, Doug !
Now that's a very cool trophy you're describing ! I would luv to see a picture of that !
If you do a reply in the Advanced mode on this thread - go up to the Icons above where you would type your text for a reply.
In the second row that starts with a "B" for Bold; "I" for italics; "U" for underline, etc. the icon to the right of the world globe with a red "X" in it is the "Insert Image" tool. Click on that; follow the instructions and navigate to where you have it on your computer to upload.

      Good luck !
      thx,

Thanks, Don. We just love it. I do think it needs some red lights put inside the eye sockets though, don't you?

I'm on a roll so I might as well show the car off a little more. You guys have created a monster here. The full pic of the car with the soft top up was taken in 2019 at the Tahoe regionals. We took 2nd Flight because the car is an AO Smith product and they never came with side pipes. The wife told me the side pipes stay, no matter what and I had to agree with her so we took the hit and wow, what a hit it was! That's ok because all the judges that looked at it said it was definitely a Top Flight car if I'd put the original exhaust back on and that was good enough for us. It's an original L72 425 HP car, matching numbers, teakwood wheel, power steering AM/FM, HD suspension, Power Antenna. The knockoffs are repro but I have the original steel wheels, hubcaps and a set of bias tires. The white with red interior big block combo is a very rare bird. In our 7 years of owning this car, we've only seen one other one.

Thank you all for the compliments (and my wife thanks you, too). She's Native American so our house has plenty of Native artwork (I love it-and her-as well). 😉

Isn't that trophy just the craziest thing! Like I mentioned, it weighs about 35 lbs and I'd say the guy that created that is really an artist! We were truly honored and astonished that we'd won it. See guys, some car shows aren't so bad after all! 😁

[QUOTE=Doug Fearing (63680);942994]That sounds like a better idea than what we're dealing with here in E. Washington St. That would eliminate folks from voting for their own car & most of the time their friends or club associates have the same type of cars they do so they couldn't vote for those.

Doug: I found out the hard way that this does not always cure the problem. Several years ago I took my 69
Z28 to the Secretary Of State(Illinois) in Springfield Il. It is true the people that judged the 1st Gen. Camaro's did
not have any cars in the class; BUT IT TURNED OUT TO BE THEIR FRIENDS THAT JUDGED OTHER CLASSES
HAD CARS IN MY CLASS. ALL THEY DID WAS"FLIP-FLOP" THE JUDGING WHICH RESULTED IN BOTH
OF THEM WINNING THEIR CLASS. Will never go to a show like that again. Thanks>Larry
