Mike- I understand your concerns-Your 66 sounds similar to mine (original 46K mi.- L72- BG Survivor-)
I agree with Leif- Just stay at or below the red line, and don't try to "power shift"; and you should be good.
Treat it the same as you do your L-84?

I’m guessing the L36 427s valves will float around 5800 RPM, so treating it like the L84 will not be possible.Last edited by Michael G.; December 19, 2021, 06:21 PM.Mike

CONGRATS MIKE. In 1990-96, I owned a 67 silver 390, AC, PS, PB, PW, Speed Minder, Vinyl hard top, black soft top, convert with POWERGLIDE and factory 3.55 diff. Wish I had that car today. Did a body off frame restoration on the car. It was one of 38 with K-19 Smog. It drove perfect, and really merged with traffic on freeways.Over 80 Corvettes of fun ! Re: 'New' '66 joins fleet...
Thanks Jim. The Powerglide with a 3.55 or 3.7 is a nice combination. My 66 Chevelle had a 396-360, Powerglide / 3.73 and was deceptively fast (about a 14.2-14.3 ET), but coulda used one more gear. I loved that engine, which, I think is very similar in character to the 427-390.Mike
