    Re: 69 K66 Ignition

    Thanks very much Rich.

For some reason the purple wire going to the solenoid was cut and a large red gauge wire was spliced in. The yellow wire is draped below the distributor and I cant tell where it goes or if it is plugged into a pink wire.
I need to get my new harnesses and once the distributor is out and I can see better I hope it makes sense? I have a restored TI distributor to put in the car.

Yes they likely had to fix the purple wire due to heat damage.

The yellow on a points system goes from solenoid R terminal to the ignition coil+. According to the diagram in post# 3 there's a connector on a 69 to the pink wire(to coil+), but not sure if same setup on a points system. This puts full battery voltage to the coil+ during Crank/Start.

On the TI system that same solenoid R terminal yellow wire will connect to a pink wire connector(diagram in post# 3) in the new TI harness you'll be getting. You may need to add a terminal to your present yellow wire to mate with the TI harness Pink wire connector. With TI that circuit goes to the TI AMP and Distributor Pickup Coil to supply full battery voltage during Crank/Start.

When you get all of your TI goodies check back in and I'll be glad to assist.

Scott, It should work on the coil+. Does you tach have a 4/8 cylinder switch?

I've never added a test tach on a TI car so not sure what else it could be.

              Re: 69 K66 Ignition

Scott, Good to know. As mentioned I never added a tach there, and now I know I'll never attempt it. I guess it makes sense that by adding a extra load there could cause the final transistor output stage of the amplifier circuit to ac up.

                Re: 69 K66 Ignition

I am reviving this old thread, soon I will be pulling the distributor and putting in the TI distributor. However, I don't have a TI coil. You guys said the aftermarket coils are junk. Any suggestions on what I should use? There is a mallory coil in there now that went with the mallory tach drive distributor.

                Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Lawrence, Try to locate a Delco 207 coil. Ideally NOS but a known good used would be fine too.

                  Rich

PS I corrected a typo from "297" to "207". Sorry just noticed.

NOS 207 in the can, you pull the string. Sold for $399, plus Shipping! Yikes! What if it's a brick inside? lol

Good Lord! I was just on ebay looking around for one of these. I guess I just missed this one...not sure I would had paid that anyway!

Are there not any replacements that can be used?

                        Lawrence,

Yes. Dave Fiedler at TI Specialty sells them for $155

Four Reproduction Wiring Harnesses cover all Corvette applications from 1964-71. These wiring harnesses are made using the original GM drawings and have the white braiding material on the resistance wires.
                        thx,
                        Mark

Mark, He's really going to want a Delco 207. I have 2 of those Repros on a shelf. How can I put this.... Hmmmm. Garage Art.

Lawrence I may have a used 207. Just remembered. I'm not sure if it'll be good but if I find it I'll let you know.

Lawrence, I'm unsure about Dave Fiedlers 1115207's or if the same as the repros I had issues with. You may want to give him a call Monday.

I looked for quite a while for my used 207 but came up empty. I must have either used it or sent it away.

BTW your 69 came with a Delco 1105263 originally but the 1115207 is the service replacement. the 263 was never available in Service. Finding a good one of those is even more rare than the 207. (*see below re the 263 but be prepared to be really price shocked)

So here are a few folks you can try for a 207....

Kevin Powers, a buddy of mine up in MA, has had quite a few Delco coils in the past and may have a 207. He's a member here so maybe send him a PM or Email.

Ian has many NOS Corvette Parts, only by email or phone. I know Ian and I've been there, bought parts and he's a very good seller. (* I know he just got some used 263's from a FL buddy, but $$$.)

David Sokolowski in California. David advertises in the Driveline check there for contact info.
