    Re: 1965 L78 Register

Gary-- I have had 2 396 Corvettes over the years.

One of them was vin#17261. It was a white coupe with maroon vinyl interior, a somewhat unusual combination. I sold it because its rust problems were beyond my capability to fix. I saw it a few years later at Carlisle. It was then maroon on the exterior too, and possibly had a bogus trim tag. The birdcage had been repaired and the frame replaced, but there were a number of mistakes that would make you doubt that it was a real 396, even though it really was.

The second one was vin#19583. It is a red convertible with black vinyl interior and an AO Smith body. My friend John Hinch of Davidsonville, MD owns it now and has just completed an excellent restoration.

I know of a few more 396's from rubbings I had taken from engine blocks, but there is no information about whether they were even coupes or convertibles. I will report them if there is any value to the survey.

Please add 17224 convertible, nassau blue with blue and white interior. Milwaukee area. Nothing original under the hood anymore--original engine gone by 1971.

#1. New VIN (to me anyway) is on ebay right now. 194675S117503 is a red conv., white top and white seats (red carpet) and tele. steering wheel. Says "numbers matching" 396 425 HP, also says original motor & Intake. Kevin is selling for his Dad, in York, PA. Bidding going on, under a reserve price. No engine bay photos.

"Bought ten years ago. - Mecum Action from the Hammack Collection"

#2. Also this one was on Ebay from Yonkers, NY in Jan. 2020.
Coupe 194375S117288 has 396 and correct hood. NCRS score 97.4 top flight, 4-speed transmission, side pipes and Teak Steering wheel with POP (PROTECT-O-PLATE). $95,000 obo. Might be yellow.

#3. Third one is NOT an original 396 car. 194375S113405 is a silver & black 300 HP 327 (engine offered with the car) on ebay. Currently has a later 396 with tri-power. I estimate the reserve is over $60, based on prior efforts to sell it on ebay.

We cannot filter on Side Pipe Vettes on the C2 Registry, unfortunately and the only way to work that out is to click on each BB 425HP Vette on the C2 registry and add a new field to my list. Perhaps when I get more time or if someone else wants to do it and give me a list iI will add it?

Is it AO Smith or St Louis build?
                      Some photos would be nice?
