    Harry,

The first picture indicates the top side of mine as I found them on the car so you are correct. Here are some more pictures of them. The grooves are about 1/16" deep. There is no evidence of any numbers or markings on them. I am assuming the were manufactured in a long strip and just cut to length as one of the ends does not appear to be at exactly 90 degrees.

Judging by the picture in post #36 I agree.

Here is a picture of one of the mounts installed in a December 21 1962 car.
These were never removed as the frame was painted not powder coated.

I'll go with that too I think...

I need to have enough "set up" time to persuade those cushions to go into place with the body on the car so that limits what can be used...

As for locations it appears that these were installed "By eye". Attached picture shows the measurements to the center of that center hole that I took of mine before removal.

Did the "deed" this morning using the measurements above I settled on 10" both ways from the center of the big hole (per the mark on the tape in the picture) and used the adhesive Harry came up with and positioned the top of the cushions per his mark. I used a carpenter's square on the fiberglass ridge rearward of the crossmember to get the cushions squared up.

I think the Doc Rebuild repros are spot on as one side took some coaxing to line up and the other was snug but slid into place...

Then I laid my compact spare in the luggage compartment to keep weight on the cushions while the adhesive sets up - checked the cushions and the extra weight does make things snug while curing.

Frank, as soon as I get back from Carlisle and get the carb. on my other 63 on the lift I'll install the rubber. Thanks for the hints.

No problem - it does make one curious why the cushions (or more cushions) weren't nearer the center of the crossmember where the luggage compartment floor would supposedly have the most "sag"....

An FYI Harry - your adhesive worked perfectly...after 24 hour cure time and some weight on the cushions they aren't going anywhere. I cleaned the top of the crossmember with Simple Green thoroughly before installing the cushions....

Id like to know if you detect a decrease in interior noise, particularly low frequency "drumming" at about 2000 RPM. Don't have anything on the luggage compartment floor. That's the worst condition for the resonance.

It appears that the "shims" were used in early production, but then discontinued. I find that strange because about the time the '63 models went into production, the engineers started working on NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) that led to rubber body mounts in '64 and many other changes through the end of C2 production. I always found that 2000 RPM drumming in my SWC the only objectionable NVH issue, so I wonder why the hell the eliminated those "shims" under the rear floor of the luggage compartment.

BTW in my earlier post I said I found the shims in the AIM, but not in my car. My memory played a trick on me. I saw them is the '63 shop manual, but not on my car, and I also realized that they would probably eliminate that annoying resonance, but couldn't find a part number after doing a thorough search of the parts catalog at my local dealer, so I fabricated my own.

The figure in the shop manual is the same as the AIM, but the AIM does not show them, so the drawing was changed, but there was nothing in the change record to indicate the drawing was changed after it was originally released... very confusing.

I got about 20 miles in today (before the Florida monsoons come) with the cushions in, there is a difference in the sound at some points but its very subtle....remember I have a base motor, early Muncie and Eaton posi, so perhaps the harmonics are different from beefier cars. But, yeah, there is a less of a low-pitched rumble at low RPMs.

That's all the test I'll get in because I've found a crankshaft front seal leak at the harmonic balancer and now I'll be tearing things apart to deal with that (ugh!)...

Thanks for the response, engine option doesn't really make any difference, but muffler type likely does.
