Re: '63 Rubber Cushion on Crossmember Over Rear Axle
I looked all through the Chassis judging section and didn't see any reference to them either....they may have been dropped in later production but I'm gonna get a set from Doc too...- Top

Re: '63 Rubber Cushion on Crossmember Over Rear Axle
I have a judging meet in September. If I have any 63's I'll ask my judges to look for these but not to deduct if they are not there on a coupe. We don't know if they were discontinued during the model year so there is no way to have an objective decision.

Re: '63 Rubber Cushion on Crossmember Over Rear Axle
Do you hear that low frequency "drumming" sound at about 2000 revs? That's always the point I found it most noticeable. One way to eliminate it is by placing something heavy on the rear luggage floor. That will damp it out. Try it and let us know if you detect a difference in interior sound level. If you do, the "shims" should be a permanent solution.
The additional support will considerably stiffen that area of the floor pan and considerably raise the natural frequency - out of the range that it will ever see.

Harry,
For the sake of accurate reporting you may want to ask your judges to also look for evidence of them having been there at one time even if they are not currently present. On my car there is a very clear shadow or ghost of them on the underside of the luggage tray.

Re: '63 Rubber Cushion on Crossmember Over Rear Axle
My November built coupe had one when I got it but I found another cushion off a 63 wreck at Carlisle and installed it. I just can't imagine they were only used on the early cars since nothing in that area changed during the year.- Top

Re: '63 Rubber Cushion on Crossmember Over Rear Axle
I removed these from my frame today. I used a rather dull putty knife and even though the pieces were very securely attached the putty knife readily went under them. It took less than a minute to remove both. Whatever the adhesive is seemed dry and hard but that was only on its surface. The rest of the adhesive material was quite pliable and still very sticky. I would probably best describe it as having the consistency of bubble gum but much tackier. I don't know what the adhesive is but I was very surprised to find out how flexible it still is and how much adhering property it still has after 56+ years. One more thing, the rubber pieces themselves are in excellent shape. They are still quite flexible with no cracking or crumbling, probably because they have never seen any UV rays since October 1962. I will be reusing these for sure.Golf is for those who can't play hockey.- Top

Norm,
Just clean them good with some mineral spirits and reuse with some super weatherstrip adhesive and you are good to go...- Top

Just got my Doc Rebuild repros today, I don't have originals to compare to but they look just like the pictures in this thread....I'll try to get them installed sometime next week (while I'm dealing with a differential cover leak - ugh!)- Top

Re: '63 Rubber Cushion on Crossmember Over Rear Axle
I got these this morning along with some 63 translucent engine bay harness plastic ties to replace the glaring bright white ones I have on there now to get my order over the minimum $20. The rubber in the cushions is dense and not like some of the cheap stuff I've seen on other repro suspension parts:Attached Files- Top

Frank, taking a look at what you received and another picture in the thread, I believe the side with the red X goes up.
