    1964 Corvette Convertible interior

What is the correct replacement carpet colors for a 1964 convertible with the 941AE interior. Are there any manufacturer that can provide ..., ie acceptable for NCRS....? Any pictures available of the original colors?

    Thanks

John, I will assume you meant to write 491AE, as there were no 941 Trim codes in the mid-years according to Al and Roy's Trim Tag Book.
491AE called for Silver/Black two-tone vinyl interior. Dash and console in Black, all else in Silver (carpets light gray). As to your best choice for current replacement carpet, I'll leave that to others to answer.

ps, now it occurs to me that you may actually have a 64 conv with a Trim tag marked 941AE, since there were so many errors made in 64 Trim tag stampings. If so, then I think 491 was actually intended, and the info above applies.

Thanks Don. Fat fingers and late night... it should have been 491AE

It is that light grey vs silver that I am trying to determine. I have found at least 2 variations by manufacturers...silver being the most prevalent color sold, not what I would call a light gray and one (SMS Auto Fabrics) sending me samples
that are clearly gray carpet and a picture with silver panels and seats with a gray like carpeting... See attached pics

I am also attaching what current interior looks like. It has been replaced. Any help in determining correct colors is appreciated.

Here are some. Your "A" sample looks close, but a little too dark. Have you tried Al Knoch? Every time I visit them they pull out original carpet pieces from different years, so they should be able to match it.

I believe the replacement carpet (attached closeup) is from Knoch. Close up pictures seem to suggest the wrong carpet. Your pics, carpet from car, and sample are varied. My exterior is Tuxedo Black, 900AA, what is yours?

                Thank you

Yes, mine is also Tuxedo Black, also a big brake, fuel tanker....... The pattern yours show are not the same as my original pattern. Here is a close-up of it: My low mile '64 Daytona Blue 'vert car also shows this pattern.

                    Re: 1964 Corvette Convertible interior

Thanks for the additional information. I found an article a while back about 1964 Corvettes, Black with silver interior. See attached link to article. I am only aware of one other with this color and interior. I have been trying to confirm the validity of statements in article and find others in this combo.

My colors seem to match the picture of interior in this article. So wonder which is correct color. Hence why I am here at NCRS to find out what is right...if it can be provided.

Any feedback or information on its accuracy would be nice. My was built 2/14/64, other 5/1/64, a coupe

Jim Gessner had a Black with 491 Silv/Blk 64 (vin 12853) fuel coupe for sale on his website a little over a year ago.
The carpet had been owner changed from gray to black.

I would be skeptical that only 6 Tuxedo Black with the tu-tone silver/black interiors were ever built for '64, as the article states. I don't think the records exist to prove that at all.

I don't think the NCRS has any role in such claims from magazine articles.

                              Interesting response.

Lets see whether I get any other comments on that.

The correct color for carpet, any acceptable replacement carpet colors, and or manufacturer that are NCRS approved for replacement interiors is what I would like to know. The search continues.....

                              Thanks
