    Re: 1964 Corvette Convertible interior

HARRY HOOD in INDIANA owns a black silver inter fuel coupe. Currently has back carpet. He owned a twin to it years ago that collector DENNIS PACY in Boston owns today. That car is ''jewelry'' perfect.

I also known of three DAYTONA BLUE / SILVER cars and SILVER / SILVER cars.

The correct carpet was ''grey'' not silver. Al did a nice repo silver. PRETTY, but not correct. He has now corrected from what I hear. I like your original Michael. The SMS example may be the same. Other GM cars used the same ''grey'' carpet. 62 OLDS was one example.

Jim visits here infrequently. I think he means Al Knoch. I think he is saying that perhaps AKs version of "Silver" (Gray) carpet is supposed to be closer than it used to be to original color.

Looks like there are 4 mentioned here as '64 black/silver cars. NCRS has no information to corroborate how many were built.

There is a fifth one. Jack Jagello (34474) also has one. Looks like we may have vins for 4 of the five mentioned so far in this chain. Still curious if Pacy has car from article.....or not.

Send Dennis Pacy (10382) an email. He loves 64's especially red/white ones however remember the black silver one from past shows.
Once you get the color shad questioned settled do not expect to get the correct carpet weave (no old style carpet exists only the better stuff)

Thank you Alan. I will reach out to Dennis. If I can at least get the correct color shade....then the better carpet should last longer.... I have reached out to a couple of suggested suppliers from Jack for samples and am going back to Knoch again to see there offering....

John, Michael Johnson's Grey color and weave/pile is absolutely correct for a 1964. It matches my carpet's tunnel piece which shows UV fading and a section that was protected/covered by the overlap of the rear storage carpeting in my coupe. As Alan said, the carpeting today is much better quality then the 60's but the 80/20 weave/pile is denser, larger and incorrect. In reality, the 60's carpeting was cheap compared to today's carpeting in new cars or in reproduction carpeting. Jack J.

                        John,
"NCRS" does not "approve or allow" anything. The best known (with some exceptions) information is described in the most current judging guides for the various years of cars. Individual judges make their calls as to the appearance of originality at judging meets. Michael Johnson has taken several 64s through all levels of judging, is a master judge, and a chapter judging chairman. His 64 Black/Silver tanker just received 98. something at the TX Regional meet, and I think the Interior lost something like 6 points total in deductions. I think "NCRS" likes his rugs. Whichever of the known vendors has gotten the shade nearest to what Michael has will be a good choice for your car. I think I would go with AK, but that is just me.

Gentlemen, per Michael Johnson, his 64 was restored in 2002, with the carpeting removed, cleaned and put back in. Since I am the original owner of my car, his color and weave/pile/loop/80/20 are original and HAVE to be spot on. As far as the 6 point deduction for interior, I hope Michael will respond. A little bit of trivia here. Years ago, 10 plus, I brought up this same topic (Black/Silver combo) with a NCRS judge, his response was "I've seen lots of Black with Silver cars". I thought then and I think now, his response was condescending and plain assinine. Go figure. Whatever.

Ha! Don has a very good memory, but actually the car was judged at the Scottsdale Regional in May, 2018, but the total score was a 98. The total interior deductions were actually 15, and all but 3 were condition items (scratches, wear, rust aging) since all is original to the car and thus old. 3 originality points were deducted for having not typical production replacement bolts in the paper bag that contained the brake cooling scoops, hardware, and installation instructions.

Again Gentlemen, I have seen another Black/Silver combo a few years ago at a car show at the GM tech center for sale. That being said, by my count, those who currently own or sold to whomever or know of someone, I came up with a total of 7 so far but please correct m if I'm wrong. In any case the term "RARE" applies for 1964, that being the 1st year offered for that color combo. To be continued.......Jack J.

You get no argument from me that the combo is rare in 64. Very rare. I can only think of maybe two that I have actually laid eyes on over the last 10 years. Maybe there were more of them back in the early days before so many were lost to wrecks etc. Who knows? You guys that own them are fortunate. You will not be bumping into any twins at your local Cars & Coffee me thinks......

ps, I have dropped a note to Dennis Pacy and asked him to let us know about his car.
