    Re: 1964 Corvette Convertible interior

I think the contrasting, non-black, interior colors are more rare. I suspect red with white, or white with red, or black with white (I have one of those '64s too) are equally rare. I would say a black interior is the most common in any C2, and it still is in any C7. Dealers hardly ever order something other than a black interior, since most people want that, so those colored interiors are usually special order by a customer I suspect. My 2 centavos.

Don, thanks for the compliment. When I first saw my car in 64 and opened the driver's door it was WOW!. I'm almost 100% sure my car, I was told, was on display in the show room window at the OLD GM Building back then on East Grand Blvd. near Woodwatd Ave. in North Detroit. I'm hoping to get a picture of the car in that setting from someone who remembers my car and took a pic when he was employed with GM's Photographic Division. Unfortunately, the pic is in Black & White. Jack J.

        Re: 1964 Corvette Convertible interior

Having logged '64 trim tags over the years our records indicate a total of 7 cars with the 491A interior code and the 900 exterior colour. Of this 4 are coupes and 3 are convertibles, the Jim Gessner car was not noted in are survey, therefore that makes 5 coupes and 3 convertibles. Also there is a coupe with the 899A (leather) with a 900 exterior. I have always found these two tone interiors striking, as I also own a '64 with a midnight blue/silver leather convertible, probably equally unique. The numbers I am using are not total production only what are in our survey. Ric

          Guys,
I received a reply from Dennis P, who is not a registered user of the Tech Board. He asked me to post the following for him:

Don- Good to hear from you. The correct carpet color is silver. The dash and console are black. My car was featured in the August 1987 Car Collector Magazine. It was a comparison between the 1964 Corvette and the1964 Cobra. Great article featuring interviews with the original owner and the second owner, his brother. The third owner (Harry Hood) is also interviewed. I have kept track of 1964 Black/Silver Corvettes and have found thirteen others so far. Only four of these cars are Fuel-injected. Mine is the only radio delete car. I believe my car is one of one. There is no known way of determining the exact number of any color combinations. Anyone who would like to discuss may call me. (I will PM his phone number to anyone who contacts me)

I have written back to Dennis to clarify a few things. I think when he says carpet color is silver that he really means Gray as in Michael J and JJ cars. And, when he says he has found fourteen 1964 Black/Silver cars, does he include 490 (all Silver vinyl) and 899 (two-tone Silver leather / with Blk or Blue dash and console) Trim as well as 491 Trim cars, or only 491Trim code cars? When I get those answered I will add to this post.

Dennis wrote me back and said so far as he knows all the cars in his list have the same two-tone Silv / Blk 491 or 899 gut. And he used Silver to describe his carpet but agreed that some could call it Gray. He is more than happy to discuss these rare cars with any member who calls him.

Is your list from NCRS records or your own research? Can you share list here?

Thanks Don, Lots of good dialog and information about this subject. Silver....Gray....carpet, dark edging (the sewn edges), silver edging. Have seen pictures of both within this discussion. Getting there. Thanks.

Also Interested in when each of the 7 or 14 known cars that were built over the production time and how many of each body...and if possible all the other stats that may be available...like Brass Hat, fuelies, HP...Ect. Hopefully we can compile this information. Thanks for all the information and historical details. John

I suggest that you drop me a pm for Dennis Pacy phone number. Call him and pick his brain, perhaps get a copy of his list, and also Ric's list, and see if the number stays at 14 or grows. Then you can take the lead on building up a current registry of 64s in this unique paint/ trim combo.

Will do. I can build up a registry with what ever info I am provided...was going to do anyway, but thanks for volunteering me.
I will provide to all interested in this discussion. Thanks

NCRS has no records on options of how cars were equipped from St. Louis.

Yes, AL KNOCH. I am curious now about trim code 490 SILVER VINYL with DA or DB suffix [ 490DB ]. I don't believe Chevrolet ever made a SILVER INTERIOR with SILVER DASH and SILVER painted clock / radio console. Has anyne seen one?

Morning....James asked if 490D* interiors were offered, in our data we have 4 coupes and 2 convertibles with this code. I noted that all 6

Thank you . Don had sent me the same photo. I believe now that it was ''possible'' up as you say November. The AUTHENTICATION LIBRARY VOL #1 BOOK lists the ECL Change 9/12/63. I believe it took per Richards photo thru Nov 63 to fully implement the two tone vinyl interior trim with silver interior of black dash or blue dash. BLACK and BLUE were used on many cars, where SILVER was used on very few.

I have always been told that the 64 interior was the most expensive Corvette interiors to be made on 63-67 Corvettes.

Yes, very interesting and I can see why it would have been changed to a tutone. IMO, the '64 interior is the most attractive, by far, of all the C2s. The '64 had so many improvements and upgrades from the '63, in so many areas it seems to be the peak for the C2s, and some were lost by the time the '65s were done.
