While I have no doubt that there are some educated and informed individuals associated with the major auctions, they by far would seem to be the exception rather than the rule. I've attended more than a few of these, and watch them occasionally on TV - and most of the time, nearly everything they say is incorrect. I pay no attention to it whatsoever - remember that at heart, these are used car dealers. Caveat Emptor.
