    Mohegan Sun auction

I felt the market seemed soft during this weeks Mohegan Sun auction. Anyone disagree?

I agree. Almost posted the same question.

I did too. It seems odd being so close after the Mecum Indy auction where prices were on the rise.

Agree. It's hard to tell condition from TV and reading the internet docket but it seemed like some really nice 58-62 vettes with fuel injection or dual quads were selling in the $60k to $70k range. Late Saturday there was even a big block 67 roadster at $60k. We all know the buyer pool is aging but the economy is pretty strong so it was surprising to see this much softening. Jim O.

The C1's in question bore the NCRS approval stickers.

I never liked auctions as I thought the price's went high because of the bidding excitement. But after this weekend it seems that the auction is the place to be. example I am looking at a 69 BB side pipe coupe. I was shocked to see the Phatom Green car go for 35K on Friday. That car looked at least # 2 the car I am looking at is a 4. I am glad that the owner did not accept my offer.

I saw those cars go across the block and what I am saying is that the auction price's seem to have come down to real world pricing. I thought the 396 car was right on the money. I will probably make the trip next year to see for myself. I just turned on when the 69 was sold and did not hear any of the sales pitch.

I usually attend the Mecom auction in Kissimmee, and you REALLY have to look these cars over. They are typically nowhere near as nice as they appear on TV, and they seem to be frequently misrepresented, or at least mistakenly described. My condo neighbor in Florida (He's a GTO guy) and I get a huge kick out of comparing the cars we looked over carefully in the tents to the same cars when they roll across the block. Yes, occasionally there is a genuine good buy - but not very often. And yes, there are occasional "World Records" set for particular cars, but only if the right suckers - sorry, buyers - are in the crowd. If there was ever an example of Caveat Emptor, a collector car auction is it . . . so I wouldn't judge price trends too much by what you see on TV. Personally, I find the whole tobacco-auction sing-song and the screaming in your face by the auction crew to be ridiculous. The British do it so much better.

Sell the car at dusk with amber lighting.

Agreed. If you attend and pay attention it is very obvious what is going on

You see it on T.V. all the time. The auctioneer will be spouting off numbers left and right and all the bidder assistants are standing around with their thumbs up there ###. When a real bidder enters the picture, an assistant runs over and the camera follows. Then they show the seller on stage being browbeaten to lower/lift the reserve, all on camera as well. If there are only "chandelier bids" and no real bidders, the car moves quickly off stage and "The bid goes on".

Isn’t the fees for sold cars something like 10% on both ends seller and buyer?

Old times was it not 6% on one end only?

I just watch, the numbers are too steep for me.
