Re: Corvette Owner's Pin Survey - 2018 Update
The M is, I suspect, for Miller (as in GBM - Gordon B. Miller). That is just a guess
The 1/5 = 20%. 20% of the weight of the object is gold.
10 KDP is, as you indicated, 10 karat double plate
FYI: From one of the jewelry sites.
1/20 12K - What is that??
The first numbers (1/20) indicate the ratio between the mass of the Karat Gold sheet to the mass of the entire piece (karat + base metal) at any given dimensions of the Gold filled sheet.
Clarification: Surface area does not play a part for calculating Gold Filled value. Whatever size or shape you cut the Gold Filled sheet, the ratio by mass remains the same.
The second number indicates the karatage of the Gold sheet alloy.
Now, say we want to know how much actual gold is there in a sheet of Gold Filled.
Example:
How much gold would there be in a 100g stamped sheet of "1/20 12K" Gold filled?
1/20 = 0.05 (or 5%)100g x 0.05 = 5g
12K = 12/24 = 0.5 (or 50%)
5g x 0.5 = 2.5g
The answer will be: 2.5g of pure gold.
These are the exact steps our calculator

Re: Corvette Owner's Pin Survey - 2018 Update
All this information made me curious -- so I had to go find my '65 owners pin. It is stamped with MI 5 along with many others. The letter, pin, and the patch are still intact. I wore the plastic identification card out because I carried it with me for many years.

Re: Corvette Owner's Pin Survey - 2018 Update
OK boys and girls;
I got a suggestion from a friend that this information about owner's pins (and perhaps the associated tie tacs) might make an interesting article for The Restorer?
What do ya'll think?
I am happy to do it if there is some interest in it, and I can find enough good info and pictures about it.
I no longer own any of the pins, so I would need some assistance with good photos.
Thoughts?

Ed - would be good to get an updated definitive list / pictures / detail - there must be plenty of Vettes out there with full documentation and pins - all the best in hunting them down - Keith- Top

Re: Corvette Owner's Pin Survey - 2018 Update
It appears that this topic has been well covered in the past...
Rev. Mike Ernst had an article entitled "Corvette Owner's Packet" in Volume 5, #4 (Spring 1979) issue of The Restorer.
Alan L. Severson has an article entitled "1957 - 1973 Corvette Owner Kits" in Volume 12, #4 (Spring 1986) issue of The Restorer.
Both articles are in depth, well researched, and provide a wealth of information about this topic.
I don't see any value in another article about Corvette Owner's Pins / Kits, Gordon B. Miller accessories as I have no additional information to provide.- Top

Mu interest was in the differences in the back markings, and whet they meant.
I'll think about it.
