Re: POST OLD PICTURES of CORVETTES HERE - NOSTALGIA

Instead of fighting all the lunatics at the malls, stayed home and they were showing Clint Eastwood's movie "The Enforcer". Discuss among yourselves what you think is the "best part" of this scene.

Re: POST OLD PICTURES of CORVETTES HERE - NOSTALGIA

I don't believe I've seen this one before (and a search didn't reveal it either).

From the Detroit Public Library Digital Collection:

            https://digitalcollections.detroitpubliclibrary.org/islandora/object/islandora%3A230646/datastream/IMAGE/view

View of rows of 1957 Chevrolet Corvette cars parked in the lot of the Chevrolet factory in St. Louis, Missouri. Label on back: "Largest shipment yet of Corvettes equipped with Chevrolet's exclusive Ramjet fuel injection left the St. Louis plant of the company this week. The number, posed in the yard outside the assembly building, was (count 'em) fifty. They were destined for all parts of the country where demand for the model far exceeds the supply. Fuel injection, being pioneered by Chevrolet in its 1957 line, replaces the conventional carburetor and assures quicker, smoother accelerator response. With the device, Chevrolet's new 283 cubic inch V8 develops 283 horsepower." Handwritten on back: "Chevrolet, 1957."

One more from the Detroit Public Library Digital Collection.

This one kinda hurts my feelings! I've looked pretty closely and don't think the background cars are actual cars. The wheels are not hanging like they really would and the tires for the Nova and Malibu look odd against the roof of the car ahead of them. Perhaps they are very large prints since compositing would have been a very painstaking job 50 years ago. The roof line shadow on the Corvette from the Corvair is well-done but the rear bumper shadow is a little odd. Does anyone know the story on how this was done?

With todays software we have done views similar to this at work. You take multiple shots in this case each of the background cars, rotate N number of degrees of each then copy them all to a single background. In this case today we would superimpose an image of the Camaro over the image of the other cars. This was pretty advanced for the positioning in '66-'67 period. 'Remember the commercial when Chevy put a car high atop a narrow tall rock? I saw a video of a helicopter placing it up there. The top surface of the rock was a bit larger than the footprint of the car. Since this photo shows the rear mounted on a support for each car I bet there are supports for the front of the cars you can't see. I wonder if there was any damage placing the cars or taking them down.

And for us old geezers that never throw anything away, John Amgwert used a similar picture, just taken from a different angle, for the centerpiece of the Winter 1979 issue of The Restorer:

I knew I had seen a shot from a different angle. I was happy to see some 5 1/2 wide wheels. Thanks to you both.

My wife and I were married in 1972. She learned to drive a 4-speed driving my '67 Blue 390 coupe. Then the army came alone for me and later, 1983, I came across this look alike coupe, this is at my brother's wedding around 1989. He wanted to borrow the car for the honeymoon.
All good memories. We still enjoy a ride in the 400 coupe.
