carb date code range for 66

I am in need of either a major restoration on my 4160 list 3367, p/n 3884505 DA, date coded 2429. My car's birthdate is November 24, 1965. Based on the date code I am confident that unless the "9" was inadvertently put in to the punch upside down, this carb belongs to 1969. Given that info and my need for a decent rebuild - I was going to go with Eric at VintageCarMuscleParts.com for a complete resurfacing and refinishing. However, given the cost involved I'm wondering if it would be more advantageous to just get a new list 3367 w/o any date code. This way I get a new throttle body with mating surfaces that fit tight all around. The carb I have now - coded 2429 - came with my car when I picked it up in '98.

If I could find a carb that was possibly made for my car what date code / range would I be looking for? Ideas, suggestions?

    Hi Kevin,

I would look for a carb dated a month or two before the engine assy date if it were my car. But anything up to six months prior will pass NCRS judging.

      Kevin,

I'm pretty sure that the 4-digit date code on your carb is indicative of a later service replacement. The original 3367 carb on my July build date '66 is 661.

So, just to clarify..your car's birthday is in July '66 and is your carb the original for the car? It would seem that a carb date code 661 would need to be at the lower range of my car, since mine has a November birthday.
        Thanks for the info, Gary.

          Kevin,

The code 661 mean 1966, June, 1st week, which makes perfect sense for a '66 with a July '66 build date. I take it you don't have the '66 TIM&JG? The carb date code info is spelled out there very clearly on page 103. And example carb date for your Nov car might be 501, for 1965, October, 1st week. I don't know if 501 is a common date code, I just made up that example. Holley carbs of that era were made in batches, so some date codes are much more common than others.

No, I don't have the '66 TIM & JG but it will become part of my library soon enough. Thanks for pointing to me in the right direction. Your info was quite useful.
