Re: Old Corvette Junk Yard photo

In the late '80s, I decided to find the '63 SWC that I bought in '64. I'd sold it to a LtCol USAF from a suburb of Seattle in '67 and hit info on the phone; got him, retired in his home area; told me #2 son had crashed it in '70 and ins. co had replaced it with a '65 when they totaled it but that the carcass was at Lincoln. A couple of months later, I was talking with Noland and he was on his way to Lincoln. I gave him the VIN and told him to ask about it. A month later, Noland told me they'd offered the firewall back, no front frame and just the VIN tag to him for $1250, a special price cause he was Noland. ""No" was the answer.
Fast forward into the '90s and Noland was at Lincoln's and asked about the car again. He was told he was "too late. It sold.".
When Noland died, we had a pact to check every FI car and every ZO6 for that 300HP Daytona Blue VIN. Not yet, but .......

Doug, Pates moved to an address on Milton in Whittier. I called the phone listed for there facility, got a recording "THAT NUMBER IS NO LONGER IN SERVICE". Oh well time takes it's toll. I would love to find my 60 C/MSp. It was a very unusual. I have one photo of the car bearing the advertisement "BILL'S DYNO", which was located in East LA. We raced 3 Corvettes out of the shop, Bill's was purple, an ran C/Gas mine was Lime Gold, and a young man from Italty named Larry Maniscalco ran a fire engine red 56 . He went on to run D/Gas in every Winter National at Pomona from 1970 to 1980. Bill's Dyno was next door to Doug Thorley (Doug's Headers). Doug designed the tri Y headers for our race cars. Doug's was next door to Big John Mazmanian's shop where we helped build his AA/Gas supercharged 41 Willys. Boy has the nostalgic big bit me. Were you involved in Drag racing Corvettes. I just had a senior moment. Can't remember much more.

Ed, No on the drag racing. Actually I am from north of Toronto in Canada and used to bring early corvettes from the L.A. area back to Canada
in the 70's. I still have some original registrations from corvettes that were brought into Canada back then. They are listed in the
C1 orphan document section. Went to some interesting places then, wish I could remember more, eh.

The person behind the blue coupe is myself - Doug Lee (40617). That is LINCOLN's in north Seattle. Lloyd would let me go into the yard on a Saturday morning and I would't come out until late afternoon. The car I was restoring at the time "lived" because of those cars!!

The old J&W that Brian Tilles mentioned was Hull Street Rd. (Rt. 360 west) out of Richmond, Va. I agree with Brian, it had to have been a 100 Corvettes out there. Some nice ones I remember were a 1957 FI, 1965 396 coupe, and the big tank 1966 coupe. Lots of 67 big block cars. Most of these cars were C1 and C2 Corvettes. Cars were everywhere with very little order. If I remember correctly the big tank 1966 was a blue car that had been stolen and stripped. It was a rolling frame car with the engine and nose gone as well as the tank and cover. That car was restored many years ago but not as a blue small block car. In the early 1970's that place was in a rural part of Chesterfield County, Va but as development moved west the property became more valuable for subdivisions rather the wrecked Corvettes. One person that I know bought about 35 or 40 of the cars. Most of those cars were put back together. The remaining Corvettes were moved to another location about 75 miles away. Back then nice C1 & C2 Corvettes could be purchased in running condition for $2000 to $2500. If one had much damage it was just totalled. Spent quiet a few Saturdays out there back in the day.

That yard in Omaha was owned by Chuck Serventy(spelling) C & S Corvettes. I spent time there with my day in the mid 70's looking for treasures, and there were plenty to be found. He did let my dad go in with him to look for parts after he'd gotten to be a regular customer.

There were probably 80-90 wrecks there--20 53-62's, 20 63-67, and the remainder c-3s. Wish I had more money at the time.

Brings back so many memories. Bought my first Corvette from the Judge in Pulaski TN. 1964 Roadster, white with red interior, FI and 4.56 rear. Had a set of metallic brakes with vented backing plates and a dual master cylinder. ??????? What do you suppose that was?????
                        Paid the Judge $175.00. !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Such a cool thread. I guess Contemporary Corvette is the modern version. This picture doesn't show it but their yard is filling with more current years.
