I crashed at Lions Drag strip at 130 MPH, totaled the front end and smashed the hard top. The small roll bar saved my gourd. I sold the car to a corvette salvage yard in Whittier, Ca. I don't recall the name of the facility. I pulled out the motor and trans, the 10 inch Goodyears, mounted on Crager mags and the 4 inch front tires on Cragers. Saved the S/W tach and other small items. I sold the 330 inch, 500hp+ motor which went into drag boat. The clue is the push bar and the funky roll bar and the smashed top. Where was this photo found, there may be more.
Ed, The salvage yard, was it Pates Auto Works on Hadley St., Whittier ?

Anybody have any pictures of the old J&W's in Mechanicsville VA? I believe his name was Tex Cumbia. I cannot estimate the amount of cars there, but I am sure it exceeded 100. I remember seeing a big tank cowl back body there. Less the tank and cover. Paige Campbell may want to chime in on this one. Also there was a shop on a corner in Jacksonville FL back in the late 70's that had a good sized yard full of 53-67 parts cars. I recall his name was Jimmy Shorter. Lots of good parts for sure at that place. I had heard it was moved to the west coast around 1980 or so.

There was also a yard in Omaha. At some point in the late 90's the son of the original proprieter allowed people in. Before that his dad stopped you at the counter. There were probably 80-90 wrecks there--20 53-62's, 20 63-67, and the remainder c-3s. Wish I had more money at the time.

            Mike,

Was in that yard many times during the 70's & 80's in south Omaha. Made several good buys. The owner wouldn't let you go into the yard.

After the owner died, the son wrecked out the yard.

Regardless of condition, Corvettes have always been worth more than cars of the same era.

Cadillac, Lincoln ? Afraid not. About 25%+ less...from when new until they found their way to the wrecking yard for parts.

Doug, you are right, I do remember a shop on Hadley in Whittier, Ca. I wonder what happened to all those cars. I'm going to Goggle Pates and do some investigating.

floyd richardson, in bennetsville, sc had a terrific yard full of c-1's and c-2's. i got a 57 wonder bar radio and speaker for 25 bucks in the very early 70's from floyd.there were trees with trunks 8" in diameter growing in the engine compartments of some of his c1 remains. he was a huge man with diabetic foot disease. believe he passed in the 80's or early 90's. heard someone from new england bought out the yard and utilized 17 tractor trailers to ship the pieces to new owners site in new england. floyd had a 57 body mounted in place of the truck cab on his rollback. floyd allowed one to roam the yard with toolbox in hand. mike

I also visited the yard in Omaha in the late 90's. Lots of great parts! I remember a big brake set up sitting by the building, sure wish I would have bought more back then!

Awesome photos Ed. I remember trips to Linclon's, rummaging through the basement parts room with Lloyd the parts man. Even back in the70's they got good money for their parts.
