    Another change?

No new components, no outages, no known hexes from old black arts practitioners, but suddenly my screen is not wide enough to present messages called up on the Discussion Board. No problem with seeing my entire message as I type this. If I'm the only one, why?

      Re: Another change?

Everything is normal on my end. You must have pizzed off the computer gods. Seriously though, like I posted in the other thread, I had to turn off the automatic Windows Update as it would sometimes mess with some of my settings. Now I select only the updates I want and always create a restore point prior to the install.

        Re: Another change?

Here's what has happened to me twice today. I very rarely visit the online classified section of the site. However I've had 2 questions sent to me via email reference online ads and Driveline ads today...and on both occasions I visited the online classified section. Upon opening the online classified section page, I have to log in to continue. Once I've completed my visit, I close my browser. Now here is where I have to log on to the entire site again...if I open my browser and navigate to the tech board, I am asked to log-in again...same holds true for any other areas that I have access to being the editor...I never realized it before, but after following this thread, this is when I am required to log in again after I visit the online classified section...

I have consistently experienced the same as Vinnie describes for a couple of years now.

Same problem as Vinnie. It does not matter what browser I use, Edge, Chrome or Firefox as it fails on all three.

Yup. As linked above, I've even posted it on the Help board. This has been this way for a long time.

                Re: What's Changed

What Vinnie experienced is normal. When you log into a different area (NCRS store, Driveline etc.) it automatically logs you out of the previous area. It's a pain but it has been that way as long as I've been here.

Problems defined are all cookie related problems.

Most haven't said what browser they're using and how their browser cookies are configured.

When you logout of the NCRS that clears out the cookies.

Here's the scenario I use on both Chrome and FireFox browsers and my browsers stay logged in.
                  - login to the Technical Discussion Board
                  - check the "Remember Me" box, this sets the cookie
                  - go to the Store www.ncrs.org/shop/ and automatically logged in
                  - go to the NCRS home page www.ncrs.org and automatically logged in
                  - primarily use Chrome browser and it's never closed unless rebooting, etc.
                  - the NCRS Technical Discussion Board tab is never closed and always logged in

Firefox. I never log out, always check Remember box.
Move to Store, have to re-login.
Move back to Forum, have to re-login.
Can happen in the same session on the same tab.

The only good thing is that Firefox remembers my logins, so I just drop them down. However, it's still a PITA.
Cookie issue or not, it happens only on this forum and apparently to many/most users.

                        Patrick,

You don't say what your cookie settings are set for in FireFox.

That's the whole point - it's the Cookies and how they're configured!

In Firefox I see the following:

"Choose how long cookies are allowed to be stored:

                          Keep until:

they expire: Each cookie will be removed when it reaches its expiration date, which is set by the site that sent the cookie.

I close Firefox: The cookies that are stored on your computer will be removed when Firefox is closed."

When do NCRS Cookies expire, Gary?

                            Terry,

A year after the cookie's created is what the NCRS cookies are when they will configured to expired.

Please keep in mind the Browser controls everything such as "the cookies that are stored on your computer will be removed when FireFox is closed".

I'm configured exactly like you show. Always have been.

Note that it happens at home on Firefox, on any machine.
It happens at my office, on any server or any client.
It happens at the hospital, on any computer.

Blame the cookies all you want. It's a site issue.
