    Brake pads revisited

I am just about finished with my spring fix-up (waiting on VB&P caliper seals ) and I have been reading here and the archives on brakes. From what I have just finished reading, organic pads will alleviate many squealing problems and will lead to longer rotor life. So, from this thread - https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...-C3-Brake-Pads - I see that GM 18028641 aka AC Delco #17D8 are the "go to" pads. Then, in another link I saw Paragon #3657K https://www.paragoncorvette.com/p-351321-disc-pad-brake-pad-kit.aspx at a very nice price. Anyone have experience with these? Paragon doesn't give any description of organic vs semi-metallic (local FLAP only sells semi-metallic) and GM Parts Direct only goes to 1984.

    My questions are:
Does anyone have experience with Paragon's part ("Disc brake pads, comparable to O.E.M.")or can compare them to the GM equivalent? Fwiw, I see the AC Delco part online in several places so availability isn't a problem.

Raybestos is a well known name, of course, but they only list semi-metallic. Is there any evidence that they still make organics?

Either way, online at around $37 +/- for AC Delco or $19 from Paragon per axle set isn't a problem. Just trying to put everything into final perspective.

    Thanks as always.

    Gary
ps, the odd thing is my pads are sitting out awaiting caliper rebuilding and I have two shims on the right front only. It has been a long time but I am pretty sure I put these pads on the car. This is odd.

    Gary,

Best pads are the 17D8 as you note:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I bought a couple sets of these and used them on a car I prepped for a PV last year. They worked fine.
For the extra few $ I'm not sure it's worth another brand.

Amazon was one of the first sites that popped up and their price is reasonable. Similar site is Rock Auto.

However, just for comparison purposes, does anyone have experience with Paragon's product?

For a street driven Corvette, the Delco D8 pads are currently the best way to go.

However, as far as the best brake pads EVER for any street driven 1965-82 Corvette, here's what they look like [not for sale]. Of course, these contain "nasty 'ol asbestos".

Disregard the question about Paragon. I orderd the AC Delco pads.

          Thanks for the input.

            Gary,
When I called Paragon they told me their pads were semi-metallic, NOT, organic.
Suggest you contact Joe Ray Corvette, he sells the pads you want.

              Ralph,
The first site with them in stock was Amazon and free 2 day shipping. Rock Auto had them at a dollar or two cheaper but then by the time you added in shipping there were slightly more expensive

                Gary,

The front and rear pads are the same?

They better be or I have two sets for one axle. In my reading, here and other sites, there was never a mention of separate part numbers. Looking at online auto parts suppliers, they also only list one part number for front and rear. Am I wrong here?

Front and rear pads are the same for non-J-56 applications. J-56 uses different front and rear pads.

No. I didn't need to since I already had them on order and I was getting them by the second day

I thought I would add some info on the 17D8. I had order a car set and one box came in from Canada with riveted pads, the other from Mexico with bonded pads, same part numbers

I just received two sets that I bought thru Amazon. Both boxes say Assembled in Mexico, and all pads are bonded, not riveted.
