Believe Dr. Rebuild also has something on his website about replacing the rubber O-rings. Here's the one on my (ex) '65.

Both DR REBUILD catalog (and possibly website) and the Corvette Forum C1/C2 Section have detailed instructions on how to rebuild. I participated in the CF Section rebuild thread. If you can't locate it, I can provide date and title to help you find it. Included is the o-rings to use in the rebuild as well as how to remove and disassemble the switch.

LICS used to sell brass reproductions. I bought an extra for myself just in case. You may try getting the GM part number and then searching thru internet (incl Ebay) and various GM Dealers Parts Network. Every now and then I see a new one (NOS or LICS reproduction) come up for sale.

            Larry -

I found the thread on the CF.
I have taken my valve part, and cleaned it all up.n It had a rubber hose looking sleeve over the piston. It was about 1/2" in length
but it was all dry rotted and cracking. the sleeve was much wider than the .092 section on the piston.

Will get the O-rings Monday from Grainger and re-assemble.

Thanks to all for the info and tech leads.
The valve is not so bad too work on.

            MANY THANKS!

Back to original question. Doesn't some vendor, Paragon, Long Island Corvette, etc. carry brass reproductions? Being plastic aside, do the plastic ones function properly?

from what i could gather the brass one is not made any longer.

the plastic one works but is a real POC.
the plastic is very brittle and is prone to cracking.
I was installing the repro on the heater box and while putting on the larger vacuum hose cracked off the plastic nipple end.
--- the heater box was out of the car so tight quarters was not an issue.

we no longer make the Brass switch -- see #36-31 for plastic/metal hybrid that is now available.

                      just an FYI ..

                      picked up the o-rings today.

did some cleaning and installed them with proper lube.
                      switch works like a champ!!

                      just an aside note.
i installed an additional O-ring in the end cap (between the spring and cap).
It helps center the rod and also seals the end cap and makes zero vacuum leakage.

This is the best technical board I have ever been part of !!!

                      Thanks to all...

                              Larry,
Thanks for sending location of CF post about rebuilding vacuum switch. However, I'm confused about which end of housing to straighten crimps. He says " side opposite button" but does he mean side adjacent to button or does he really mean the side of the box fartherest away from button?
                              Thanks
