Just consider me slow, but once again , do you straighten the crimps on the end of "the Box' that's next to "the button" or the crimps on the end of the brass box that's fartherest away from the button?
    Thanks in advance for explaining.

      bill

i knocked the crimps down on the side that the button is on.
mostly because you can then pull the entire pushrod assembly out without having to take the button head off the shaft.

just be sure to catch the spring and washer that in the lower part of the assembly.

I had to buy a whole bag of o-rings - if you want a couple of them send me your address and I will mail you an envelope with them.

While restoring my 67 AC around 1991 (?) - I repaired my original Brass vacuum switch with an o-ring. It's worked fine for nearly 25 years. Very Important: lubricate with high melting point vacuum grease. Delco sold a small tube about the size of half your pinkie. It's been so long - the GM # is ICRS. Do not use ordinary grease.
Dizzy Dean said "it ain't braggin if you're the one who done it".

No need for AC today - one inch of snow at Lake Waramaug 06777
Burning lots of oak in the fireplace.

            Doc------

Most likely GM #12345579. It's supplied in a 1 oz tube for about 10 bucks.

This is also great stuff for lubricating and preserving weatherstripping.

              hey ....

              Just an FYI ---

              "just an aside note.
i installed an additional O-ring in the end cap (between the spring and cap).
It helps center the rod and also seals the end cap and makes zero vacuum leakage. "

              I had to undo this.
for some reason on my valve it was making the piston/rod stick intermittently. specially after leaving it in they closed
              position for an extended period.
              I lubed it up
well, but it did not work.
I removed it and all is smooth.

              Sorry for the bad advise...
