Very true Gene. The welded tube finish cannot be reproduced. The only way is to re-use the forged yokes with a new tube welded between.

Yup, they call it "re-tubing". In addition, even the original as-forged finish of the yoke ends is impossible to restore as it originally appeared.

However, as Doug pointed out, if one has a big block, the half shafts were shot-peened. This finish is easy to restore. Just have them re-shot-peened with correct size shot. Some LT-1's may have also used the shot-peened half shafts.
