Re: Engine pad stamp
I had the same concerns as the posts here. Its a original paint interior with a nice Ca. frame. The Corvette dose look like a neat car. I would be paying for originality & that's why I ask for opinions here. So far all think it is not factory stamped. I will wait to see if anyone else thinks different as I want to make sure that the Corvette is not branded as a restamp when it's not. Thanks GUYS.65 350 TI CONV 67 J56 435 CONV,67,390/AIR CONV,70 454/air CONV,

Re: Engine pad stamp
I understand the owner is applying more paint remover and also brake spray and a clean rag to show ''all'' the fonts, and broach marks in a better photo. The owner had no idea what he owned. A very nice, never damaged rust free Southern California car at birth from HARRY MANN Chevrolet per the NCRS Shipping Doc.Original NASSAU Blue paint, Nassau blue interior, 327/350hp with TRANSISTOR ignition. Re: Engine pad stamp
Ken - I'm going to offer a differing opinion than what has been posted so far. I think the pad is a good one and here's why. Everything from the FI and to the left looks fine....broach marks are in line and character size/font/spacing are all good. The fonts used, the alignment, and the spacing of the 208HV are good too. The question is why are there diagonal looking marks in the area of the 208HV. Here's my thought....looks to me like some milling has occurred on that end of the block, perhaps from the factory, perhaps not. At any rate, if you study the characters, you will see that the top surface of the stamping has been removed making the 208HV look somewhat faint when compared to the rest of the pad. This makes sense since the metal that was displaced in the stamping process has been removed. I would judge it good. Tim- Top

Re: Engine pad stamp
Belt sander used on right side underneath "208HV".
Right side under VIN and "FI" shows correct pad surface (proper broach marks).
I must admit, I've never seen a grafted-hybrid pad such as this. VERRRRRY INTERESTING.......................but SCHTOOOOOOPID.
Would need to see the pad in person to determine how much of a slope occurs on that right side. If the intent was to erase the engine suffix, then the amount of material removed from the area under the last 2 characters would have to be determined. Seems like much ado about "creating" a 350 horse motor with TI. Unlikely but possible.
To the OP: Lay a straight edge along the top of that pad. If it looks like a deep cut on that right side, then I'd pass on buying that one. It might be legit, but you're looking for trouble on the NCRS judging field, IMHO.Last edited by Joe C.; March 30, 2016, 12:03 PM.- Top

Re: Engine pad stamp
+1 with Tim. Except this caveat. I love the left side of the pad, not so much on the right side. Something went on there on that side. I (like Michael) hate to get involved in this type of stuff, but OP did ask for opinions!John Seeley

Re: Engine pad stamp
I think someone took a heavy wire brush to the right side of the pad when the heads were off. IMO the broaching got scratched up on that side.
The left side looks fairly good to me. I converted the image to Grayscale and split it in two for clarity.

Maybe a grindout, but IIRC grindouts are 90* from these abberations.

IMO, it's not TFP, but it appears it was scratched to me, by who? Who knows. I do not think it was decked as the swirl marks would be circular and traversing longitudinally along the axis if the crankshaft.

Re: Engine pad stamp
THANKS GUYS. I know how subjective stamp pad judging is but if I have the Corvette judged will the get any deductions for pad & stamps? It would help me & the owner to know if it would. Hope others will post their thoughts about the pad. I really like the Corvette because of its originality. Not many original paint/ interior/ frame 65 left.65 350 TI CONV 67 J56 435 CONV,67,390/AIR CONV,70 454/air CONV,
