Just curious to know what anyone has found marked on the inside of their 1968 door panels .Also does anyone know who G.M contracted with to make the panels and where they were located?

Re: 1968 door panels
Hi Thomas,
Here are pictures of my door panels. I believe them to be original, however, others may know better. How do your's compare?

Re: 1968 door panels
My early model '68 has the name of "Liz" written in black grease pen on the backside of one of the panels. I forget what the stamped dates are. I will check and report back. Will also check for any other markings or symbols for you.

Re: 1968 door panels
Blair Thanks My driver's side panel, like yours, has the name "Pat" written in black crayon and the date "Feb 2 1967"(I think a mis-stamp) stamped on it. However, my passenger side has three different types of writing in three different materials, yellow and black crayon and black grease pencil. Also there are several sets of numbers and an unusual symbol. The panel is stamped "Feb 1 1968" Also there is the name "Peg" as well as what appears to be "Quinnesec Mich."In addition there is a marking which is either "9.88 67" or L.88 67. I know my panels are original and look like they haven't been off before as the factory adhesive and vapor barriers were still intact. Pretty strange .
thanks again- Top

Re: 1968 door panels
Hello Thomas
Now you got my curiosity up. I am going to check my panels (s/n 5338) this weekend for other markings. I also still have my original door panels from another early model '68 that I use to own - s/n 400245. I know both sets are OEM originals. I will let you know what I find.
Cheers. BK- Top

Re: 1968 door panels
My Passenger side panel is dated Jan 12 1968 and has the name Rose. The Driver side panel is dated Nov 16 1967 and has the names Dot and Joyce and the number 12-D. The car has a built date of mid Dec of 67. It would appear by the date that my passenger side panel is a very early replacement panel. Looks the same otherwise. I would not expect such a close date for a replacement panel to the build date. I wonder what caused the panel to need replacement within the first 30 days of being new.

Re: 1968 door panels
Terry Thanks for the info. I also had a 68 with a driver's side door panel a few months after the build date .A retired parts man from a local dealership told me that there were many customer complaints about the panels and he recalls ordering a "bunch" of panels for replacement under warranty. Also, one of the quality issues that prompted car and driver to refuse to test drive the 68 was the driver side panel coming off the door.
Thanks again Thom- Top

Re: 1968 door panels
Patrick Thanks So far we have Liz.Pat,Peg.Rose.and Jill. I wonder if these ladies were inspectors or the actual constructors of the panels? What is the name on your panel written in? (crayon ,grease pencil, etc.) How close is the date on your panel to your build date?
Thanks again Thom- Top

Re: 1968 door panels
Hello, Thomas
I had no problems in taking the pics - all the markings showed up great on my end. I am just having a problem uploading them to this Forum (for some strange reason). I am going to try uploaded them again.- Top

Re: 1968 door panels
Hi Blair,
I had a problem too when I first tried to load my pictures on this thread. I thought I should try to load pictures that I had reduced in size but they would not load. I found that the full size pictures loaded without problem. They seemed to be automatically reduced at the NCRS loading end. Not real terminology accurate but the best I can do this morning. Hope this helps or you might contact the help desk with the problem.
