Please critique this 1967 L79 engine

image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgI am about ready to put the engine back into the engine bay and thought I'd see if there was anything I missed. Figured it would be easier to fix any discrepancies now than later

      King ,

I may be wrong , as I don't know 67s , but I think you have the wrong Fuel Pump for an L79. If others confirm , that is sure easier changed now !

Also as heavy as the A/C compressor is, I would mount it now . Beats wrestling it over the fender and attaching afterwards.

      Nice job,

      Jim

        King,
I don't think that the blue fuel pump gasket it typical factory. Others may know better than I, just my observation.

King, I believe the water pump nipple should be a short one with AC and your carb spring bkt is bent at a 90 and would normally be almost flat.
I find that the fuel pump, crank pulley and distributor are better left off during engine installation. They hit stuff and skin up that new paint.

Jim thanks for the words. The fuel pump is right but the blue gasket needs changing. Scott thanks for the tips!

              King ,

I guess by 67 they did not call for the 6440083 fuel pump any more. I thought A/C and or L79 both called for it through all C-2 .

King, Just a suggestion, easier to install the fuel line from pump to carb before installing the engine. (more room)

Barry thanks. Jim wish it had the 6440083 fuel pump. They are easier to come by than the 67 pump. It's the right number only wrong date.

I'm pretty sure the 'mounting plate' for the fuel pump was installed before engine paint so it should be orange.

                      Jim -

That plate was installed at St. Louis, and should be natural. Also, the harmonic damper bolt and washer should not be painted - they were installed at St. Louis too.

I had my 65 L84 car judged last weekend and was told by the Mechanical judge that the breather at the rear of the engine should "not" have a spacer under it. Looks like yours does. Is yours correct.? Should my L84 have the spacer.? Judge told me it was easier to install with the spacer.?

Of course John is correct! It is pictured on UPC 6 C1 of the 67 AIM with a part number so it was a St Louis install. Sorry about that :-(

Thanks John. I'll take care of the bolt and spacer

King, The alternator bracket bolt going through the water pump should be black phos. my understanding is the water pump was installed with 4 bolt that were painted and once the brackets, mounts, were installed those bolts were replaced with correct length bolts and had no paint. Also are you painting the brackets and pulleys? everything looks so nice. I like the Orange engine paint choice.
