The Shipper document (1977 - up) used to be gratis, now it is $50. Still worth it especially if you don't have a build sheet/tank sticker. Some time catch Al Grenning's Trim Tag presentation he discusses the number of invoice/shipper/RPO information users through out GM. If the invoice/shipper documents for earlier cars ever surfaces, IMO that would be the source for judging originality. Trim Tags are all we have, so that's what we use. Tank stickers/build sheets can get "created" so in order to verify original configuration you need to get the information from an independent source (Corvette Museum for later cars/GM archives for 1977 - up).
Is your 1981 a St. Louis or Bowling Green car?
