I recently bought a 1980 L-82 that had earned 3 top flights, 4-Star Chevy Bowtie, displayed at the Corvette Museum in 2000-2001. Currently has 5500 miles and would like to prepare for additional top flights, McLellan Mark-of-Excellence and 5th Star. Bought the car from Corvette Mike in New England and had it shipped to my residence in Florida without a visual review. Not immediately realizing the Trim Tag on the drivers post is missing and looks as thorough it was never there. In 2000 the NRCS required authenticity & attachment of the Trim Tag from the Team Leader under the Operations section; however, the revised NRCS 2002 judging forms only ask the trim code and color and do not require validation for authenticity under the Interior and Exterior sections. My question.....Will my car be allowed in the judging flight awards without the Trim Tag?

Re: Judging question - Missing Trim Tag
Thanks for responding Bill....I'm quite sure it is not painted over and there doesn't seem to be any damage to the surrounding area. I do have the original build sheet (in poor condition) and it shows trim and color information.....- Top

Re: Judging question - Missing Trim Tag
Bill, I have the judging forms for Bowtie and Team Leader signoff on the authenticity of Trim Tag on NCRS judging form issued 2000 under the operation section....My confusion is the 2002 does not required the authenticity requirement.....However there is a statement in the technical information manual issued 2/2013 (which I just got to help get my car ready) that refers to missing or reproduced trim tags that refers back to NCRS Judging reference sect 4, item 13, Trim Tag, which falls back to CDCIF..... giving the judges a bit of authority to make a determination...I was a bit shocked today not finding the tag and a bit concerned if anyone else has been in the same position.- Top

Re: Judging question - Missing Trim Tag
Paul,
IIRC a Trim Tag sign off by the Team Leader is and has been on the greensheet since 2000, not on the the Judging Score Sheets.
The member does not get a copy of the greensheets and they are retained by the National Judging Chairman.
Which Convention was the Bowtie award?

Re: Judging question - Missing Trim Tag
Really not a problem confirming build date, color, interior, options, etc for 1977 and up Corvettes. The shipper document is available for your car from GM Archives. Ask the applicable Team Lead if that will be acceptable documentation. Have the GM archive forward the Shipper Document directly to the applicable Team Leader (not to you). The Team Leader can give the Shipper document back to you after judging.Judging Chairman Mid-Way USA (Kansas) Chapter- Top

This is a very informative thread, I had always thought a car without a trim tag could not be judged.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: Judging question - Missing Trim Tag
Thanks David, interesting....I will contact GM Archives and see where that leads...The January Regional Winter Convention is in Florida and not sure who will be Team Leader.....a bit risky on my part to register and pay ahead not knowing acceptance or not.....several high ranking officers in NCRS (in other threads) were not as optimistic as you, but I will try it anyhow....Paul- Top
