I left out an important detail of the cruise out to Hyde Park, we put the cars in order by age with C1-C3 first, so the oldest ones go first and they are given priority parking up front at the park, so you are spared the double clutching and slow speed issues.

Re: when is a CORVETTE show a corvette show???????

The sad part of this whole discussion is that we, who have worked our tails off, restoring an older Corvette to almost Show room appearance, is that someone shows up with a NEW 2015 Corvette and gets "BEST OF SHOW". There needs to be some inequity in that. Maybe put a year limit such as 25 years old to show in the "Antique" part of the show. I know no one likes the word " Antique", but that is what most States will allow for that type of license plate. What would you suggest to level the "paying field" ?l

You know what?...I've gotten a real education here. I have now learned that I am a fool, which is hard for someone my age to admit. I had my chance at respectability...and blew it. I was foolish enough to buy a new 1958, fuel injected, 4-speed with two tops and a wonder bar radio, off the showroom floor in 1958. Unfortunately, it was my only car and after a year, traded it in on a 1959 Thunderbird...I was travelling a lot and I just needed more space. Now, I should have known that a half century later that would be the only car worthy of taking to a show or cruise. After all...everything else is just junk. And, of course everyone who has anything else is...well, they're just dumber than I am... and have no right to breathe the same air as someone who was smart enough to keep or acquire a car like the one I was foolish enough to part with. And then, to compound this folly...like a real dummy ...What did I go and do? Well, I'm ashamed to admit it but in 1985 I bought this 1972 convertible, which I should have known would never be worthy enough to be owned by a "respectable" Corvette owner. And then...to make matters worse, I really display my lack of acumen by spending a bunch of money "fixing it up." After all, who in their right mind puts a brand new NOS frame, trailing arms, "A" frames and a bunch of other stuff under an old piece of junk like that. And, if that's not enough...turn around and put a new interior and top on a worthless old car that still has the original paint, chrome and glass. The paint has some, well, maybe a lot of "crazing," and some of the seams are now visible...hey, I polish it up but you know, it's like putting lipstick on a pig...if you look close you can still see the flaws. Bottom line, after being educated by some of the people in this thread...I can't be seen driving this car anymore. I just know that everyone is looking at me and saying, "Look at that old fool." The only solution, I suppose is to see if I can find someone I can pay to cart this piece of junk away. After all, the sheer ignominy of having this sub-standard vehicle around would be just too much to bear. It's bad enough being old...but to both old and foolish...well, I just can't have it. I probably should let my N.C.R.S. membership expire because some out there don't consider me worthy of "real" membership anyway. But,..wait a minute...after thinking about it, I've come to the conclusion that there are probably more dumb, stupid and unworthy members, like me, than those few "elitists"who consider the rest of us dumb, stupid and unworthy. Also, a lot of them seem like really nice folks. In fact, I've gotten a lot of good and useful information given to me by some of these folks...and some of it by folks who do own the "right' cars, which means that all of "them" aren't bad. Anyway, I still don't know what to do about the car. The truth is I live in a small town and maybe the people aren't sophisticated enough to know better...but, some of them actually think my car's nice. (They probably say that just because they feel sorry for me.) What the heck...ignorance is bliss...maybe I'll keep the car and drive it around town...no shows or cruises though

            Dan-

I can't think of one hobby, sport or activity that doesn't attract some percentage of elitists or snobs as members. The NCRS is no different. I can only conclude that such behaviour is overcompensation for some real or perceived inadequacy in other areas of their lives. Just ignore them.

What's going to be the next riveting subject, here on The Corvette Forum, er uh, I mean TDB?
I know...does the color of your underwear match your socks, when you drive your Corvette?

Growing up in Southern California, my favorite event in the '70s and '80s was the Pomona Swap Meet at the LA County Fairgrounds parking lot. It was held several times a year, and Corvettes of all years showed up in force, from project cars for sale to #1 condition beauties. I would estimate scores of Corvettes and hundreds of other cars, many for sale. I live in Texas now, but I've heard the Pomona event is still held.

I remember in the mid '60s my family would make a yearly visit to my aunts, uncles, and cousins, who lived in West Covina, and we would go to a couple of drag strips near Irwindale along the new 210. It was always a car show, and I could not count the number of '30s and '40 Fords, Chevys, and Willys with 392 Hemis transplanted in them. And there was always a famous drag racer or two every time we went, but what I remember the best was the greatest burgers I had ever had at the concession stands.

I plan to bring my unfinished 1970 fixer-upper to the Texas Regional later this week. I'm hoping to get some advice about finishing it and compare some details with the nice cars there.

OK, let's not devolve into ad hominem attacks here. I feel the point has been made that all Corvettes are welcome at most events, particularly Corvette-centered events. Certain individuals may choose not to look over later-model cars, and that's certainly their right. The fact remains that the majority of Corvette shows are going to feature predominantly late-model cars - that's just the way it is, and the reasons have been discussed. I try to bring both the C1 and the C6 to shows when I can do so, and I have seen younger guys with a clapped-out '75 coupe mostly in primer, that they are restoring in their garage, have more fun than anyone else at the show.

Don't let anyone else tell you how, where or how much you should enjoy your Corvette. No matter what it is or what it looks like, there are a LOT of other people who wish they had it.

I have spent some time looking at Corvettes in the parking lot of NCRS events. It can be very rewarding. At the recent Wisconsin Regional I dragged the Advanced Judging class out to the parking lot to look at a couple of C3s that were driven to the event. I think most people found that rewarding. Well even if they didn't -- I did.

At the last Carolinas Regional a few of us die-hard C3 fans spent about a half hour looking at a 1972 barn find on a trailer in the rain. We would have spent more time, but some of us do have enough sense to come in out of the rain.

Mark, I am looking forward to seeing your car in Frisco, but I do hope it doesn't rain.
