And I can remember thinking about how many C4s there were in shows during the mid-90s. Supply is a factor (fewer older cars), plus owners of older cars are more reluctant to show up if the weather is the least bit threatening or it's a long drive.

And, that's if they get driven at all. To me it is a travesty that so many of the restored C1-C2 are rarely, if ever, driven (therefore, not seen at shows or out and about). So many bemoan the fate of our hobby as they sit in their garage staring at a car that is rarely seen in public. I've always been of the opinion that in order for others to get interested in our hobby, they need to see what our hobby is all about...the cars.

I think we all agree with you and would like to see more older cars. But we know the reality is to expect lots of newer models. Makes you appreciate NCRS events more, doesn't it?

Maybe one solution is for everyone to get one of those kit/custom Corvettes that have a vintage looking body over a modern chassis and bring that to the show.

maybe the answer is to have NCRS split its membership, think about it, if i remember correctly, our
magazine is called the Corvette Restorer. I bet some thoughful members could come up with some
unique names for the newer models.

As the owner of both a C6 convertible and a C1 (1962 300 hp), I try to get both of them out in front of the public a frequently as I can. If it's a longer tour-type event or a parade, I will typically take the C6. For reasonably nearby shows (say, within 50 miles) I will try to take the '62. It's the car everyone wants to see, and there are rarely more than a handful of C1 & C2 Corvettes at most shows. I try to let kids sit in it, and always try to answer as many questions as I can. How do we expect people to get involved in the hobby if we won't? Sure, I don't let kids eating an ice cream cone on a 90-degree day get in, but as for the body and windows, fingerprints clean off pretty easily and I have rarely had to caution more than a few spectators about proper car show etiquette. I usually post a replica Chevrolet dealer price sticker in the window, and that's a great conversation starter. People are generally interested in the early Corvettes, and you just don't see them out and about anymore. While I understand that they have appreciated greatly in value, I would rather have other people see and enjoy the car than to just have it sit covered up in the garage . . . but that's me. I try not to be too judgmental of owners who never show their cars - after all, it's their car and their choice . . . but I think they're missing out on the best part of the Corvette hobby. The people.

I usually take my C2s, and soon my C3s to car shows locally. In fact, as I posted before, our NM NCRS Chapter participated in the annual New Mexico Make-A-Wish car show and we all brought C1-C3s. We had about a dozen of those compared to about 20 C6 and C7s. Not bad I thought, and some of ours were Duntov winners and I drove mine 180 miles round trip.

I'm in complete agreement with you. To me, car shows are for special cars you don't see everyday. There's nothing special about a car you can see everyday on a used car lot. I never could understand people who enter a new, or a few years old, car in a show. Typically, nobody pays any attention to them. Maybe I should enter my GMC truck in a show. No difference between entering it and a C-6 or C-7.

The Syracuse Corvette Club's annual Vettes at the Beach show at Sylvan Beach, NY. Held in early July every year, this year's was the 22nd annual. We had not quite 400 Corvettes this year, some years we've had closer to 500. Always a great time with great sponsors and great people. I usually attend Corvettes at Carlisle and the Florida NCRS Regional every year, and of course they're fun, too.

And actually, Mark, that photo of my '62 was taken on the way to Vettes at the Beach in July!!

As I remember (didn't actually count them) about 25 C1's from 1954-1962, and around 30 C2's. It was a pretty good mix, but as has been stated here, predominantly C6s with about 20 C7's. Just the way it is these days, I guess . . . but the C1's and C2's that were there were very nice cars, and well worth coming out to see. So to answer your question - and these are just estimates - I would say percentage-wise:

C1 - 7%
C2 - 8%
C3 - 11%
C4 - 18%
C5 - 22%
C6 - 29%
C7 - 5%

Yes, shows have become social events and vendors are going to the internet to sell their Products! C-5 and up drivers only need a hat, a mat and a T-shirt! They attend the shows to be entertained!

PS. For those of you that attended Corvette Carlisle this year and observed a parking lot!

This past weekend, my wife and I attended a show in Flagler Beach, Florida. We caravanned over with ~12 other Corvettes. It's usually a 2.5 hour drive to get there, but we made additional stops along the way.

There were about 180 cars entered. There were maybe 15 total C1, C2, and C3 cars entered. Very few C4's too. Most were C5, C6, and even C7's.

We were guilty... as we drove our C6 convertible, not the 63. Why? It was a 2 day trip with 2 overnights. Didn't want to leave the 63 unattended at the Hampton Inn parking lot.

Wally no toes stepped on you merely stated a fact. I took 2015 to a couple of shows when I first got it mostly because their are only a couple in my county and they are treated like trailer queens. My mid years are what I drive to shows. I don't care 1 bit about rain or clouds. I wont be around for ever and my sons will know whet to do with them. Restore them or sellem !!

That's pretty good, anymore, if there are over 20% C1s to C3s, I call that a good turnout for the old ones.
