when is a CORVETTE show a corvette show???????

recently i attended a well known corvette show, i would say over 200 corvettes .
taking my time i counted 24 corvettes that were in the catagory of C1-C2-C3 the rest were
made up of mostly C6/C7, forgive me for saying, is this really what todays corvette shows
are to be, am i that old where i can not relate to "cookie cutter" (corvettes). please someone help
steer me in the right direction. yes, i guess i can except it or just stay home and dream of what use to be.

It's been that way for many years now I went to many shows where lots of C5's were on display in 2002 - 2005 and I really don't see an issue with it a Corvette is a Corvette and if owners of the C5 and C6 want to show their car off that's great. If only C1 - C3 cars were allowed you would have had a show with 24 cars. I personally like the C1 and C2 cars and I spend my time looking at them.

The reality is that the C5,C6 and C7 owners are driving the hobby in alot of ways. They travel and attend alot of events. It has become a social affair at many events, which is fine. I must admit I drive my newer Z06 to alot of the events that are further away. I still drive my older cars and enjoy them. I'm just not as likely to do a 1,000 mile round trip to Carlisle when I have a newer car. The new Corvettes are great cars, but they aren't as interesting as the older cars to look at.

And I can remember thinking about how many C4s there were in shows during the mid-90s. Supply is a factor (fewer older cars), plus owners of older cars are more reluctant to show up if the weather is the least bit threatening or it's a long drive.

I love my 2015 but when I am in a mid year and wave to a newer vette the person in the car looks at me like I have 2 heads. I don't expect all drivers to know the difference between every year but at least know when you are seeing a vette. The big change is that now there is almost no way to personalize your car from the factory. Wheels calipers ect but other wise you choose what is behind door 1,2 or 3.

I go to a show every week end . I noticed the rural shows have the older and like last week end the 63 roadster and the 62 fuel injected corvettes were gorgeous . I noticed the military shows have a older group of people with outstanding Chevrolet products. So watch for the once a year shows . Some cars come out of the garage once a year so you have to be active every week end. I do like the new corvettes but my attraction is the C1 thru C4

As the cars (and owners) have gotten older the Corvette shows have become mostly variations of the C5-C7 generations. Our local club show gets about 100 entries and on a dry/sunny day maybe 15 are C1-C3 and another 10 C4. The rest are C5 or newer. For the reasons stated in earlier posts, the old cars are not driven much and their owners in many cases have multiple cars so the newer one is the one driven to the show. The old ones still get the attention and are often the winners of any "people's choice" award that is presented. I've owned my '84 since new and recall when the show fields were full of C4's in the early '90's. Everything has just fast forwarded to the next generation.

I've been meaning to take the trek from Dallas to this event for years. It sounds like a hoot, and I understand it even fancies a police escort as the Corvette caravan scrambles up the mountain. How would you describe the event and its experience? The drive up the mountain on Hyde Park Road is beautiful and we do it every time we visit Santa Fe.

EDIT: Maybe NCRS can host a judging event at Hyde Park one year. If your car makes it up without breaking down or overheating, you pass PV!

Wow. Climbing 20 miles to an 8500 foot elevation going 5 to 30 mph. That would be quite a stress test for my '70 454. Is there a tow truck escort too?
