    Don

Your car is definitely Sportsman Class now and would be a good candidate in the new class being developed. Bring it out to the Lone Star Regional in Frisco TX in October and we can all drool on it!

I will volunteer the Lone Star Regional in October to try out judging some resto mods or concourse or whatever you want to call them. We have plenty of those in Texas.

I totally and completely disagree with the above. Why? Well, I'll offer a couple of examples. The Classic Chevy organization, Chevelle folks, etc, etc, have classes for serious, hard core restored cars (much like the NCRS level of restoration standards), mildly modified cars and all out modified show cars. AND IT WORKS. Also, other car groups (such as Chevelles) DO NOT project a superior attitude like the NCRS folks do. This is VERY DIFFICULT for many NCRS members to swallow because for the most part they are in total denial and believe they can do no wrong. Of all the car related organizations that I've been associated with over the years, NONE of them project an attitude of superiority like many of the NCRS people do--------------------and they refuse to recognize and acknowledge that! Yes, people within NCRS who have, or are working toward having, a restored Corvette get along just fine. But if a person/car is outside that objective, they just do not fit into the inner circle. No doubt my comments are offensive to many, but just keep in mind the old saying "I have met the enemy, and it is I".
NCRS needs to embrace ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL forms of Corvettes!!! Everything from the struggling little guy all the way up to the "money is no object for me" person.
I agree with Tom! NCRS is dying a slow death and if the attitudes toward the 78 and up owners they will lose members. If you don't own a metal bumper car your not worth talking to!!! Attending a training class a National meet a new member stood up introduced himself and said he owned a C4. then asked the guest speaker a question where he could find the information he was talking about. The guest speaker answered thats not a corvette it just has the corvette letters on it buy a book. After all the laughter stopped the C4 owner asked where do I buy the book. Instead of that welcome feeling he felt rejected. If that attitudes continues NCRS will be a thing of the past. Without new members the $$ aren't coming in to NCRS. NCRS has lost money for the last 5 years.

I volunteered the Lone Star Regional for a trial balloon on this. Got several guys who would be glad to bring cars out for it.

Bring to Frisco for Sportsman if nothing else. Your car would be perfect for the Concours, but it would be great for Sportsman in lieu of the new class getting off the ground. You would not believe the interest your car will draw. We had a '66 resto mod a couple of years ago and the folks loved it. We get a lot of the outside public coming in and they love these kinds of cars.

Very true Bob, I remember last year where one of the vendor/sponsors had a Resto-Mod C2 that was just amazing to look at and drew big crowds all weekend.

Where would a 56 airbox car with With Bill Thomas modified FI, HD brakes, Muncie and 3.08 posi fit in?
Oh ya, and a trailer hitch?

Re: Glad to see another class of judging is coming down the line from NCRS.

                    Good Day All,

Yes, NCRS is working on a new type of judging where Originality will not be evaluated; only functionality and condition/appearance will be judged.

Our Flight Judging, Mark of Excellence Judging and Preservation Excellence Judging are recognized by many as the best Corvette judging programs in the world. Our Technical Information Manual and judging Guide library is the backbone of these judging classes.

The intent of the new judging activity is to allow cars that have been modified or have had important parts/components replaced with non-conforming items to participate in the NCRS judging activities. We have seen only a small percentage of the Corvettes that were built by the General. I believe that we can broaden our perspective by judging other Corvettes, and still remain true to the roots of our club.

At the NCRS Board of Directors Meeting on 7/22/2016, I asked for and received approval of a budget of $12,500 to begin implementation of the software changes to support the new judging activity. I will report on the timetable, from time to time, in my column in the Corvette Restorer magazine.

                    Regards,
                    Dave

I am very glad to see modified Corvettes further recognized by our club. Most of us who had these cars in our earlier years either bought them modified or modified them after we got our hands on them. Like many I did both. Thanks to all who are making this happen. Folks: I think that we can all agree that this is an interesting topic. I too have a couple of boys still at home and while they like and appreciate my stock C2, they are far more appreciative of newer stuff (e.g., C7s, SS Camaros, Hellcats, etc.). To them, NCRS is "kinda cool", however, not a big draw. By way of recent example, I'm planning to attend the Lone Star Regional in October, yet, I couldn't get either of them to join me - even for a day. Bottom line, I feel that there is ample room for a new NCRS Class. NCRS quality Vettes cost a lot. Consequently, in the base case, it keeps a lot of good folks out of our organization. In application, having an optional less stringent class would broaded and strengthen the membership rolls of this fine organization. I work for a Fortune 5 company. Part of our ongoing business plan is to have sound succession planning to hopefully keep us vibrant and competitive. I think we need to consider this factor within NCRS as well. Just my 2 cents for what it's worth. As a great man said 70 years ago: "To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often." Winston Churchill

I live in N. Calif. Not that long ago there were 6 original owner C2's in our county. The cars were all decent, but none were up to Flight Judging. I think these owners and their cars were have been fun to have the NCRS events. I know 2 of these people who thought the correct part numbers requirement was a deal breaker.

The new judging is a great idea.
