Re: Radials Tires for the 66'

Many used tag dealers around, I got one from guy in south FL, near Tampa I think. Was in good enough condition to get through state vehicle dept approval for use on my car. Cost me $35 from the dealer.

        Don
thanks for bringing this thread back around to radial tire advice. A suggestion for Mr. Chapman and others: Instead of taking the reins of someone else's thread and swinging it over to a topic more interesting to you, next time consider searching the site for previous discussions of your particular topic or else starting your own new thread. It is the courteous thing to do.

It is certainly a challenge finding tires that have at least the spirit of an original look.

So so far only a couple with thinner WW's. Hankook and a couple of other off brands.

Im thinking that the Cooper Trendsetter with 3/4" WW may be the way to go for a 66.

Hope the OP lets us know what he came up with

So far not much luck finding the radial tires. I've checked around some on the Cooper Trendsetters and haven't found any in stock at most places. Will keep trying on them. I also found that Coker has a 3/4" radial (205/75R/15) made by Maxxis that looks pretty good. I think they want $105 per tire plus shipping. A friend has a set of Uniroyal Tigerpaw's with a 5/8" whitewall on his midyear, but I don't know how long he has had them or if you can still get them. I'll keep looking.

Don: Thanks for the note and the suggestion. I pride myself on being a courteous gentleman and I hate sending this emails out on this basic questions, yet, this site is about as intuitive as the Rosetta Stone. By any measure, it's not user friendly. I always try to answer my own questions in the Archives or current threads and only send out notes if I can't find the answer elsewhere. I was honestly unaware I was "swinging" topics and my sincere apologies to the group if I was. I'm just a simple Corvette guy, with a bunch of kids who like them too, trying to learn something from some potential mentors. Happy to discuss any questions or concerns you have directly. I can be reached on my listed cell. Best regards, EWC

Re: Radials Tires for the 66'

I finally found a 5/8" whitewall radial tire (205/75R/15). They are Hankook Optimo H724 All Season Tire. I found them on Amazon.com and they are about $80 a tire plus free shipping. I wrote in a question to make sure they were 5/8" whitewalls and got a yes answer, so I'll see what happens. I ordered five of them. This is the only 15" radial with a 5/8" whitewall that I have been able to find.

Gary, That was one of the tires on my list as well. I hope they are indeed 5/8 or at least 3/4. the Coopers are 3/4 for sure (I had them measured).

It will be great to see pics of the Hancook on a rim. Where you putting on a KO? or rim with cap?

                  Thanks

                  Don

PS. Here is a pic of the Cooper.

I'll be putting them on my KO wheels. As I said I asked about the 5/8" whitewall and a fellow said that he measured them and they were 5/8". I liked the looks of the Cooper's. The picture actually looks more like a 5/8"

I mentioned the Hancook's to some fellow Vette friends and they gave me crap about Hancook's on a classic Vette. The shame was just too much so I moved on... ha1

Yea I would have liked to have had an American made tire also, but what's made in America now anyway. I just want to enjoy taking the 66' for a ride without having to fight the road with the bias plys that I have had on it for a long time. I'll bet that a lot of the American named tires are not made here anyway

                            Gary,

When you receive the Hankook tires can you report back the actual whitewall size.

Yep, I want to know as well. that i why I will run up and look at some tomorrow. I went over to a friends house yesterday and looked at the tires he has on his 65. They are Tiger paw Uniroyal 215/70 and the WW was 11/16", just 1/16" more than 5/8".

I hope I'm not too late to help you. I had a very good experience getting my YOM plates from License Plate Jesse, Jesse Perez, San Antonio, TX, 210-532-7456. $75 for '54 passenger car plates for my (of course) '54 Vette.
