Back in the fifties and sixties when you bought a new suit it sometimes came with 2 pairs of pants….maybe this is something similar?!?

I would say that L71 stamping is as queer as a three dollar bill.

And I'm sure the seller passed along the information it is a total fake prior to the sale...........! no?

It's not just the 67 L71, the Corvette hobby for better or worse is ten to twelve years' ahead of other hobbyist groups. (State of the art restoration was being done by the Corvette hobby in my view 12 years before any other Marque) that means some groups have just discovered trim tags within the last few years, NCRS published a book on trim tags, quite a few years ago now.
As a result of current knowledge levels these cars get caught in the Corvette hobby quicker. It's happening everywhere in all the Marques, some groups are just better educated and catch them quicker. It’s a double edge sword because those that are of the nature to be dishonest can get all the education they need to deceive the average person without much effort.
A person looking at the car being discussed in this thread apparently to purchase in April 2014, performed a NCRS Document Validation Service on the documents, they all failed and were rejected as not GM issued. A person doing his due diligence on this car could have easily found out there were multiple lawsuits regarding it and consequentially realize one of the parties with his company named in the suit, is one of less than a handful of people to have ever been removed from the organization for practices detrimental to the hobby.
My point in all this is use due diligence, the answer is out there, don’t just assume what you read is the gospel, unless you trust the individual that is stating it. With a little ground work and effort your odds can be a lot better than Vegas, in fact they can be greatly improved.

Agreed, contrary to popular belief, there really are original 67 L71s out there that are intact.

There are good, real and well documented Corvettes of all years out there including '67 L71's. There are bogus and undocumented Corvettes of all years out there, also.

IMHO: Special thanks to GM/Chevrolet for not keeping the documentation(Or they got them and won't release them) on their cars like Mopar&Ford did. All these problems could have been avoided. A stupid decision that will stay with them forever. Larry
