Pulled instrument cluster with John Hinckley's help

Yesteday afternoon I pulled out the instrument cluster on my 66 using John Hinckley's article Non Luster Mid Year Cluster. I was amazed at how thorough his instructions were. Made it a lot less difficult. Would highly suggest, as John did to purchase the ignition wrench and headlamp wrench. Thanks John.

Completely agree. I too followed the article. It made what appeared to be a very daunting task, more simple and doable. It actually seems easy after you have done it! The most difficult part of the entire job is maneuvering your body in the confines of the car.

I have the panel on my work-bench just waiting for some help like this, Now all I have to do is get the A/C vents in and then should be ready for this.

I have had virus problems with my computer so I am just getting back. Hope to start Part II of John's cluster installatation this week. I sent tach to be recalibrated and refaced. It should arrive back to me Tues or Wed.

You might want to check the Summer 2006 Restorer article...Mid-Year Dash Resto Tips. It also is based upon John Hinckley's fine article from the Corvette Enthusiast.

Wasn't too bad. I do have small hands. I used one of those bright headlamps which allowed me to see what I was doing really well. I can only say that having John's 2 part article made it a lot easier and was also very thorough and was easy to refer to and check progress of your work. Again I say "Thanks a million, John".

just curious did you have one extra gray wire bulb, I used the pictures posted by Jim as I found them on the internet also, and it actually shows one extra bulb, maybe cars with auto trans?, I am 100 percent sure I didn't miss any spots for this thing checked several times, glade your went back in easy.
