Installing Cover

Hey Jack,
I installed the cover and shot a touch up coat of paint on tonight. Tomorrow I'll come in and crate it up to ship on Monday FedEx.


I will include 2 bottles of posi additive. You will have to pick up 2 bottles of Lucas 85-140 gear oil and you can reuse your old fill plug which you should have there or you can use the new one I installed. Seal the plug with some tape or thread sealant.


You will have to break in the new gears too, I will have paperwork in with the diff to cover the procedure. This is important, you don't want to burn up the new gears.


You should have it on Tuesday.

My rear end comes home !

The rear end build is over. I just received the box and now I have to start thinking about the installation of the drive train.


But that can wait for another day.

Rear End and Transmission Installation

Well I celebrated Memorial Day Weekend with a little car work. I now have all the parts ready for installation .










The first thing I have to ask is , Why did I think I could do this ?

Next I had to get the transmission back in . Replaced the throw-out bearing, rear bearing and seal. Never easy...I finally resorted to the push the tail over the cross member, roll the tranny on to my chest, and do a push up with it . It went up and in. No problems but a lot of back and blue marks on my arms and body.

Using a jack, I lifted up the rear with cross member and bolted it to frame





Next the haft shafts...using jacks to lift the TA up to level to install HS

My rear end is back in the seat again......

My rear End is in the seat once again......The first ride of 2015.
After 6 months of restoration , the car held together for a 20 minute ride to start the break in of the newly rebuilt rear end, transmission and suspension..
I did the removal and installation with the car on jack stands.
I do not recommend this method , but like many of us, I had no choice..,,,,,,,.




I have to go now....time for another 20 minute ride....

Hi Don,

I am looking forward to going to Carlisle this year. Can you believe that I have never gone...but then again I was not a corvette guy...I just drove one......a lot......It should be fun...I plan to stop and say hello to a few hosts from my 48 trip on the way down and back. I still have a lot of minor stuff to do on the car. 65,000 miles in 4 years will take its toll. It was great to get behind the wheel again. The return to the 3:36 from 3:70, feels great...longer shifts and more top end ...as I like to stay at 70-85 most of the time. It will be a few weeks before I can let it rip as I have to break in the rear and get it aligned.

Have you done a series of tight figure eights at very slow speeds for the posi clutches?

Hi, Gary tuned the Posi unit with more than 10 hrs of slow rotation.....right now I am just getting the car back on road, will need to align it and re torque all the bolts, and will do some turns....just great to be back on the road.

Alignment specs ?

Hi , I am almost ready to give an update on the rear suspension project.


Tomorrow I bring in the car for alignment. I have all the factory specs, but I know that the front with radial tires is set a little differently then factory.


My car is completely stock front suspension with original style A arms.


1966 L-79 with stock power steering setup. Tires are 215 R 70 15

Should I try to get for the following specs based on radial tires and my hi speed (70-90 mph) for long periods of driving on my
trips...



Front


Toe Factory ?
Caster As much as possible 2 + ? if A arm will allow
Camber Factory ?

Rear


Camber 0 or fraction less
Toe Factory
