    72 Tank Sticker

    Hi all,

I'm researching a tank sticker, early 1972, and hoping to find some to compare. Can anyone share their sticker, any vehicle identification number before # 2300?

    TIA

That's very kind of you Michael, Thank you. However that's a little bit earlier than my research project.

Perhaps, I should be more specific with my question?

Does anyone have a build/tank sheet with the key codes stamped in reverse, if viewing the face side, from a 72 Corvette with a vin number before #2300? A snapshot would be helpful!

        Hi Kevin,
In M.F.Dobbins 68-72 book there's a picture of a Corvette order copy for a very late 71 car with an expected date of production of 7-10-71. Page 235.
It appears it MIGHT have the key codes….they're printed backwards and located below the last option specified in the "Option No." column….half in that column and half in the "Type" column.
Might what I'm seeing be what you're looking for?
        Regards,
        Alan

I believe that I have the tank sticker for 72 car #2300. I don't have the car (never did), but I got the tank sticker from a previous owner that was going to throw it out

Hi Alan, Yes, that is exactly what I am referring to! However, in the fourth edition of Mr. Dobbins book, I find this on page 265? So, would it be safe to assume every sticker had these codes on them? It was my thoughts that these codes didn't begin to appear until the 72 model year? They do appear on my 5/10/72 built LT-1 sheet. Now, if someone could help, showing these codes on early 72 sheets?

Hi Ed, It would be great if you could post a copy or PM one if you prefer?

            Thanks!

              Kevin,
The key codes did not show up on Corvette Order Copy sheets with the beginning of the 1971 model, but began showing up in March 1971.

                Hi Kevin and Warren,
I just looked carefully for any sign of the key codes on my mid January 1971 Corvette Order Copy and Window Sticker; not even a hint of anything.
The dealer did put the key codes on the Bill of Sale though.
                Regards,
                Alan

                  Hi Alan,

Not only do I find the key codes located in the same area, in addition, the vin. number is also on the sheet in reverse! It's on the right side of the page. I'm wondering what sheets/pages/stickers were being "gang" typed at the same time?

Still looking for confirmation on early 72 sheets?

Edit: After taking a closer look at the sheet in MF Dobbins book, the partial vin. number can be seen faintly.

                  Thanks for the help guys!

                    Kevin,
i just bought a 72 LT1 that was built in August of 71 - #1093 I believe. It has 2 tank stickers, but the car will not be delivered until the end of this month. If you are still interested in this I will let you know after I can look at them.

I have a very clear picture of my very clear tank sticker. What specifically are you looking for. If it is indeed the key code part of the sticker, let me know and I will send a copy of the tank sticker over to your regular e-mail. I actually have the key code blown up in some pictures and reversed so you can read it.The key code is stamped in reverse on mine. Monte

                              Hi Monte,
For my 71 the code is four characters… a digit, a letter, and then two digits. One set for the door/ ignition key and one set for the glovebox/ spare tire lock.
                              For instance….4B56 and 5C44
Note that the characters are spaced so the small hole didn't obliterate one or both of the center characters which would have made the 'punch-outs' useless.
                              Regards,
                              Alan
