I just counted the believed originals on my 63 and there are 13 grooves. The GM replacements that were bought in the 70's have 12. I had to use a pen to count, no way to see them.

Tim, just found that out also, NOS from the parts counter had 12.

If you bought new 4 hole sill plates in the late 70's, they would be just reproductions, not GM reproductions. GM never made the original 4 hole plate again after mid 1964.

I have a feeling this reproduction part is where all the confusion started on the 12 vs the 13 groove part.

If you bought new 4 hole sill plates in the late 70's, they would be just reproductions, not GM reproductions. GM never made the original 4 hole plate again after mid 1964.

Michael, I have thought about what you wrote and I do agree. In fact I do remember ordering the sill plates from the local Chev dealer and when I got them home I saw they had the extra holes. So mine then are old repros. For an old guy you have a good memory. Thanks for the correction.

Maybe now we can put this sill plate mystery to rest. Only the originals have the 13 groove. I will tell you that it is very hard to count the grooves. Almost as hard as counting the grooves in an old 45 RPM record.
