    63 Sill Plates Deduction

Reviewing the Bowtie consideration sheets on the wife's 63 Coupe, I see a full deduct(4of4) for what appeared to be original sill plates to us. The explanation was "Configuration - 11 grooves". I wasn't there for the sheet review and Cathie can't recall what it was said it should be, 10 she thinks. I counted the grooves, I see 11. I counted the raised lips, I see 10. We're confused. Negative archive help & we're still waiting for our 63-64 JG.

    What should it be?

    Thanks,
    Rich & Cathie

            Re: 63 Sill Plates Deduction

John, The car is a very late February 63 car.

The full deduct is because they were not original, being replacements as it appears. That's how things get judged for Star Awards leading to Bowtie. If it ain't original, it gets a full hit I was told. That's why it's important not to polish the stainless, repaint things, overclean chassis, etc. It's all in the Judging Reference Manual.

Still would like to know the differences and what is correct for the future. I heard the other day that there are 12 grooves. Can't imagine why the repro folks didn't count right!

            Thanks,
            Rich

Rich, Please disregard everything I said. I apologize as I was talking about the wrong part. I was thinking the rocker moldings. You are talking about the door sill plates. I am truly sorry. John

                Ok, No Problem......but,

...if anyone has the 63 Judging Manual please see if it explains this.
                Thanks,
                Rich

Can you post a picture of the entire sill and it's measurements.

                  Thanks

                  Harry

Re: 63 Sill Plates Deduction.. Harry

Thanks for posting the picture. I just went out to my car. I know they are not original sills, they are 4 screws. The person I got the car from, 10 years ago, said that he replaced the sills with used sills. Saying that, they could be used originals or used repros. Anyway, they have 11 grooves.

                      Harry

                        Hi Rich,
Can't help on the grooves in the 63 sill plates, but have noticed the the screws holding most repro sill plates sit up to high. It's like the bevel in the repro sill plate doesn't have enough relief in it to let the screws go down flush with the top of the plate.
                        Regards,
                        Page Campbell

Rich, after discussing with MH, was the judge looking for 10 peaks and 10 valleys. If he was that's impossible. If you have 10 peaks you must have 11 valleys. Keep pushing on this one. The judge may have gotten confused!

Harry, All that was written on the sheet was 11 grooves(valleys).

                            Still Confused,

Rich, Someone weird happened to your post. All the replies are gone except the one I deleted and yours. Anyhow you know the scoop on the sills and what is required for bow tie judging. Repro parts are a no no for sure. Good luck, John
