Oh, I see what you mean. It's because it's over 5 days old I think. If you click any response it'll recreate the whole thread. A website artifact I suppose.

Re: How many screws hold them down?

        John,
Haven't heard back from you on this one so maybe you can shed some light. To answer your question, 4 screws.

        Check this ebay item:
        http://tinyurl.com/2rgkaw
It states oem with 12 grooves. Maybe he counted an extra groove. 4 screws hold it in. The 63 aim says 3797499 and shows 2 screws on one end, nothing on the other end but it must be 2 more. The 53-72 parts book says that part# is for 63-66.

        Now check this one:
        http://tinyurl.com/3xvwct
It's the same part#, but 6 screws hold it in. Seller says the same part#3797499, for 63-66, but it has 6 screws. These are NOS in the wrapper.

Now when I took them off mine, there were clearly only 4 holes in the body, not 6. I see in the Corvette Repro catalogs it says 63-64 use 4 screws, 65-66 use 6 screws. Obviously the sellers aren't aware.

Also seems like the GM replacements covered both with the extra 2 screws and used the same part#.

Why is something so simple so confusing?

From the photo you can see that the heads of your screws are really stickin up just like Harry said. Also they aren't beat up enough to be the originals from 1963. Notice how shiny they are. Those seal plates were one of the first things to go bad. I used to replace them in the olden days with new ones as my big feet always scratched them. John

Harry, I don't have a clue what is going on with my PC. Must be still up set from the recipe I put on. Anyhow I do not see Jorjorians post. It wasn't that great of a post to start with though. heeeeeee. JD

Re: How many screws hold them down?

Best go to a show, etc. and look at some known originals as we aren't getting anywhere here. Sorry I could not be of more help. Typicaly 63's only use 4 screws to hold the sill plate on.
I uncovered my show car again. I might as well leave the covers off. Looks like there are about 12 grooves. I said about. Hard to count with my old eyes. I had better result using my thumb nails. 11-12. Mine were bought in the mid 70's from GM. John

Not sure if I repeat, however hope this helps.

For a Mar64 the sill plates used 4 screws. Have the original still and the one I put on in the 70's which was the 6 hole. Now the 4 holes are under the sill on both sides. Pass is still the original. The AIM shows 6 screws with a dated page of 4/22/64 which was after my build date. Think this was discussed before, but have not found yet.

Now to add a little more, my screws have the large head and are original. Know the judges like to see the smaller head ones. Those may have come about with the 6 hole change. THINK they are #8, while the smaller (pn 9414766) are #8 with a #6 head, but not sure.

Rich, I was looking at a 63 Z06 today. Everything on the car was original, in boxes but original. There were 13 valleys on the sill. I think this is area that needs research and an update.

                        Re: Z06

Haryy, This has truly turned into quite a mystery. Mine has 11, the ones on ebay had 12, you say 13 on the original Z06. It almost seems like it'll be impossible to get the definitive on this issue. Someday we'll figure it out.

Thanks for digging in with me,

                          Re: Z06

What I forgot to add was, it appears that all the repros have 11 valleys. So I have a set of used repros on my car. You might also have an old set of repros.

                          Keep up the research.

Rick, yes it was Andy's Z06. looks as if 13 is a good number. Let's see if others chime in.

Believed originals on my November 62 SWC have 13.
