It goes around the check valves. also the t fittings. Also up front by the headlight actuators. I can send you some pics if you need some off my car.

Note, also, that there are two types of tape, and the clear tape is not used for all years.

The clear "packing tape" as Dick discussed is used through 1970 Corvettes. I don't recall seeing it on any 1971s, and surely not those built in the latter half of the production year. So, if you have a 71 or later, don't wrap with this.

There is a second type of tape used to hold the vacuum lines together along the left (driver's) inner fender as well as other locations. It is black, and similar to the cloth electrical tape used in years gone by. I've used this type of tape on my cars with good success. Well, at least none of the judges noted it.

If I remember correctly you can buy the 3M packing tape in a thinner width but you still have to slice it down or in half to get the correct size. Also from what I recall the original tape have almost double the amount of threads running through the tape, but having the correct tape is what they are looking for not the number of threads. Also on the headlight actuator and wiper door actuator under the dash is a black tape which I haven't been able to find anywhere, it has a celophane or glossy look to it but the sides show a type of cloth as the previous poster has listed. At the present time I do have the dash out and can take a picture of that tape along with the way it is wrapped. All I have to do is figure out how to post it here. Or you can email me and I will send the pictures that way.

How about Doc Rebuild part number 8845242? If the JG now suggests that you not have GM lettering on them, then I'd suggest using lacquer thinner to remove the GM logos just like the rest of us do.
