Don , The spring appear to be a original, Price seems to be a bit steep. You'll want the mounting plate and the correct length bolts, generally the replaced bolts are to long- you will want bolts 3 1/4 in. long. Paragon corvette sells them but you will want the 7 leaf spring bolts they have listed as they are the correct length.

        Don
1968-1972 judging sheets shown here are link above in drop down under member services.

The rear spring and links is worth 5 orig and 5 condition and you lose all 10 for total deduction for mono spring.
If there are any other changes to rear suspension to accomodate mono spring, there would be more deducts there.

Don, I looked at my 70/72 JM the spring is 5 points originality and 5 condition. Being the spring is not even close you may lose all the points. If you had a replacement spring that was closer it would judge better.Check the judging sheets for 68/69 the can be viewed on line with the discussion board.

[QUOTE=Don Walker (29724);709916]Any comments on the correctness of this ebay unit? I current have a mono spring; what other components would be needed to mount this?

Holy Smokes, yes indeed that seems pricey!! there's nothing special about it being for a big block car, so there a lots of them out there! I picked up a used unit at Carlisle for $100. It's installed in my '73 454, rides fine, sits even, wasn't all pitted up. Maybe I got lucky, but as long as the leaves aren't flat spotted you could always re-arch. At least at a swap meet you're not getting socked with shipping!

To my knowledge, F41 was not offered with L36 in 1969.

                Hi Don.

FWIW, a couple observations/comments on the ebay spring that's linked to this thread:
                1. Looks like the entire spring has been re-painted. Looks nice, however, the stamped steel cups which are peened to the bottom leaf are painted as well. I believe the original cups were plated?
                2. I think Ed already mentioned something about the proper mounting bolt length. You might want to check the assembly bolt that's pictured in the ebay ad. Head looks a little different (shallow?) than what I've seen (not sure) and the length is something you definitely want to make sure is not too long.
                3. Lastly, I'd agree that the price seems steep.

                  Don,

The steel end cups are bare steel. Plated or painted is incorrect for judging.

                    Don,

The end cups on that used e-bay spring look like the early style with the shallow sloped peripheral lip. In addition to the fact that the cups are painted, which is incorrect, the shallow style cups are only correct for '63 thru about Dec of '66 or Jan of '67 based on my research. Sometime during the early part of the '67 model year the newer design cup was introduced with the lip closer to a 90 degree angle relative to the base of the cup. For a '69 car the cups would need to be replaced with the steep lip design. Also, in my experience $500, even including S&H, is unreasonable for a used 9-leaf spring. They can be found for roughly 1/3 or less of that price if you have the luxury of looking for a few months.

I bought a very nice used one last year for $125 at Bloomington. So, they're not hard to find for a lot less money.
